New Zealanders - or 'Kiwis' - represent a surprising melting pot of nationalities and cultures and are broadly categorised as either Maori or Pakeha. Maori are the indigenous people while Pakeha is a term originally used by Maori to describe outsiders but which in modern usage tends more to refer to a white skinned person with other nationalities referred to according to origin as Asian, European or Pacific Islander, etc.
The native Maori people are of Polynesian origin, whose arrival is still the subject of much debate. Evidence suggests they may have visited as far back as 2000 years ago, though nothing points to a specific start of continual residence. One thing that is sure is that New Zealand was one of the last major land masses to be inhabited on earth, leaving us with much fascinating flora and fauna which remains wonderfully unmodified by human influence. Maori history is the subject of richly woven myths and legends as their language was only spoken until the first decades of the 1800's when a written form was developed by early Pakeha settlers. Once in written form, the various legends were further 'averaged' to arrive at the popular story telling of an initial mystical migration arriving aboard a Great Fleet of six ancestral canoes about the year 1300. Maori who are interested in their cultural heritage, and there are many who are, can trace their tribal origins back to one of these canoes and further still to Hawaiki, the traditional homeland of all Polynesian peoples. Any visit to our shores is enhanced by the opportunities which Maori proudly provide to learn about this past and their unique tapestry of explanations for every facet of nature's blessing of their land.
Captain James Cook wasn't the first European to sight the land Maori called Aotearoa, but his favourable reports after HMS Endeavour's famous voyage of 1769 heralded a new era. Pakeha settlers first arrived in the last light of the 1700's as opportunist traders and were followed by missionaries in the early 1800's. New Zealand's national day on the sixth of February celebrates the 1840 signing of a treaty between the 1000 or so settlers and chiefs representing as many as 100 000 Maori. Organised settlement quickly followed with packages of land and passage marketed in London. By 1900 the 'new' socially progressive nation was already a mix of Germans, French, Scots, Irish, Scandinavians, Dalmatians, Lebanese and Jews. Population reached one million by the time of World War One and two million during the 1950's when a new wave of encouraged immigrants arrived from Britain, Holland, Hungary and Poland. Pacific Islanders, who today comprise one of the most significant groups of migrants, began arriving in the 1960's and now represent 6% of the population. Auckland, where some areas can boast almost 50% of inhabitants as originating from the Pacific, is widely regarded as the largest Polynesian city in the world. By 1973 there were three million Kiwis and early in 2003 we reached a population of four million after immigration policies designed to attract investment during the 1990's appealed to Chinese, Koreans and South Africans. Today, as the country's population approaches 4.5 million, 20% of residents were born beyond our own shores - though this varies widely from 30% in urban centres like Auckland to 6% in the rural heartlands.
New Zealanders possess a quietly reserved sense of patriotism for a nationality which has provided pioneers in many fields. It was a Kiwi who was first to split the atom and Sir Edmund Hillary's ascent of Mt Everest in 1953 similarly stirred the imagination of the world. Initiatives such as retirement pensions and the right for women to vote also claim New Zealand as their birthplace. In battle both Maori and Pakeha have won Britain's highest gallantry awards - with one even becoming the only combat soldier to ever win the Victoria Cross twice. Most Kiwis know they live in one of the most fortunate countries on the planet and that they are considered friendly by outsiders. By international standards New Zealanders are fit, healthy, well educated and independent. Levels of smoking and alcohol consumption are relatively low and over three quarters of school children are involved in organised sport. More than 60% of adults continue to participate in regular physical activity, producing many world champions. Of the 87 Olympic medals that hang in New Zealand homes, almost half are gold. Literacy runs at 99%, while 30% of adults have qualifications gained since leaving school and more than 80% of the population have access to the internet. About 20% of the workforce are self employed and, even during the current global recession, less than 7% are unemployed. 68% of people own the home they live in, the highest rate in the world.
Kiwis are not deeply religious people with the three main religions of Anglican, Presbyterian, and Catholic holding a declining 50% of the population's faith. The Maori people were enthusiastic converts to Christianity and its peaceful ways by the early missionaries and their own religion is represented by a rich mythology. Numerous other religions enjoy strong followings among the Polynesian, Chinese, Indian and other communities.
Although 85% urbanised these days, even our largest metropolitan centre can only claim a little over a million inhabitants. Many people choose to live in smaller towns where individuals make important contributions to the community. Most Kiwis have time to stop and talk and pass on that natural smile which may well be a product of Polynesian influence. You can be sure of meeting one or two on a leisurely tour of our back-roads!

I was going to write a long winded review about how great the van was and how great Kenrick was to deal with but just re-read a few other recent reviews and it's all already there. Once again thanks Kenrick for helping make our trip so memorable.
We toured the top of the North Island for 10 days in a New Zealand Frontiers van. Would we go through it all again? Too right we would! Size, equipment, ease of driving/parking, sleeping, cooking, toileting, all compounded for a great holiday. Kenrick responded quickly to our phone requests for help while traveling. The personal touch added to the experience. There are no hidden costs which bigger firms could learn from. We freedom camped easily, and stayed in the Department of Conservation Camping Grounds, and in Commercial Camping Grounds. All had their own advantages and charms and the two-berth van was well suited to these options. Thanks Kenrick and family for a great idea well executed.
"New Zealand Frontiers was the most positive experience I have ever had with travel arrangements in foreign lands."
While planning my trip to New Zealand over a year ago, I began reading various reviews for camper van companies on the web. I quickly discovered numerous favorable reviews from New Zealand Frontiers and decided this was going to be the company I'll choose for my adventure! I was met at the airport by Kenrick of New Zealand Frontiers and was immediately impressed. Such a nice person. Kenrick thoroughly went over the camper van with me and answered all of my questions. Kenrick was very nice and we spoke over a fresh cup of coffee he had made me. After my three week adventure on both islands, I returned the camper van and Kenrick gave me a ride back to the airport. During my trip, Kenrick emailed me with helpful information about road openings/closures, and wished me well on my trip! I cannot say enough in words of how much I appreciate Kenrick and his assistance before, during, and after my vacation in New Zealand. New Zealand Frontiers was the most positive experience I have ever had with travel arrangements in foreign lands and I would (and probably will) use them again in the future. I have met a new friend in New Zealand! HIGHLY recommended!
Juliette Woodman, U.K., January-March 2019
I used a New Zealand Frontiers van for the third time this Jan/Feb and found it clean comfortable and it ran very smoothly all around the route. The kind friendly advice available at anytime was also a valuable asset during another epic voyage around this beautiful country. Juliet

Having been utterly confused and despondent in my search for a reputable camper van hire company, I was immensely relieved to come across New Zealand Frontiers. Here was a small company I could deal directly with, who had nothing but great reviews. Kenrick, the owner is very personable, with a great sense of humour and on hand via email to help and offer advice in any way he can. We had an immaculate van for around 5 weeks, being great to drive and totally reliable. Preparing and cooking food was easy and we slept really well. We went for a smaller van to have a good driving experience, and so glad we did.
Simon Blacklidge and Julie Muir, Singapore, January 2019
My wife, as usual, spent a long time in checking out the various companies that offer campervans in New Zealand. Thank you to Kenrick for providing such a personal service to all his customers and therefore receiving nothing but positive feedback. From the first email enquiring about the vans, to the moment he dropped us back at the hotel in Auckland before we flew home, the service we enjoyed from New Zealand Frontiers (Kenrick) was second to none.
The van was excellent in almost every way. Numerous sized spaces for cups and water bottles! Bottle opener! GPS commentary! Driving was a pleasure, parking was straight forward and sleeping was very comfortable.
If you want a reasonable sized vehicle and peace of mind you MUST choose New Zealand Frontiers.
"The van was in very good condition and the pricing completely up front, no hidden extras."
Andy and Sue Millard, U.K., October-December 2018
For many years we had wanted to visit New Zealand and at last had the opportunity. So we decided the best way, for freedom and flexibility, was to do it in a campervan. After comparing numerous companies, we chose New Zealand Frontiers and we're so glad we did.
Kenrick Mitchell is a man who cares. From the very first contact, he made us feel so welcome, and throughout the booking process and during our trip he was always accessible and helpful. The van was easy to drive (we covered 7000km and it never felt tiring) and so comfortable, especially the bed. It was perfect for two people and included everything we needed. So many positives and It was certainly a major part of our successful and memorable trip.
We had an amazing six weeks. We've seen some truly stunning sights and had some awesome experiences. New Zealand is an amazing place. A place full of wonders and they're all so accessible. Its spectacular scenery and active geology, its unique plants and wildlife (especially the birds), its pride in its cultural heritage, all make it a really special place to visit. Having long wanted to, we're so glad we eventually made it and, thanks to Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers, we found the ideal way to achieve our goal.
Craig and Dina Meiusi, Canada, November-December 2018
It was the best holiday EVER!! Not only because it's the most wonderful country to travel in for its beauty and wonder... it wouldn't have been as carefree had it not been for the amazing customer service provided by Kenrick. From the very first correspondence to dropping off our home on wheels, we felt genuinely cared for. He took the time to explain all the workings and cubby holes in the van, and as campervan virgins, this could not have been more appreciated! As business owners ourselves, Kenrick's excellent sense of humour and hands-on welcome was beyond refreshing! I would and have recommended this awesome company to anyone looking to rent a well-cared for and equipped camper van. Easy to drive and maneuver on the roads of New Zealand. Have run out of adjectives to describe the best holiday EVER!! Cheers!!
"We could have stayed for two months (or even more) we had such a good time!"
Jamie and Chantal Roberts, Australia, July 2018
My wife and I hired the two berth deluxe campervan from Kenrick for two weeks in July 2018. We could have stayed for two months (or even more) we had such a good time! The van met our needs perfectly - it was clear to see that a lot of thought had been put into making the van as functional and user friendly as possible. There was a little air conditioner in the van (for powered sites) that heated up the van brilliantly. Even though we went in the middle of winter we were never cold once! There is also a gas heater if you're free camping. The bed was also super comfy - we slept like logs most nights. I found the van very easy to drive and, surprisingly, it had a bit of power to negotiate mountainous country and winding roads as well. The van we hired was manual transmission but Kenrick was looking at expanding his fleet with some automatic transmission vehicles. The GPS that's provided with the vehicle has informative (and sometimes hilarious) commentary regarding the history of New Zealand and Maori folklore.
The best part about New Zealand Frontiers is dealing with Kenrick. He is professionalism embodied. He goes the extra mile to provide quality and a personal touch which in my experience is rare nowadays. And the price you are quoted is the price you pay! There are no nasty surprises upon returning the van! Fortunately, we did not do any damage to the van but Kenrick applies a common sense approach if the van is damaged. He is not going to charge you for minute and frivolous things, only when it is warranted.
All in all we had a wonderful experience and would 100% recommend to New Zealand Frontiers to anyone.
"We absolutely loved the van, it met our needs perfectly."
Jamie and Chantal Roberts, Australia, July 2018
We absolutely loved the van, it met our needs perfectly and the layout was very well thought out. We will be sure to hire from you again if we do another NZ camper trip with bub/bubs. It's clear to see that you go the extra mile to provide quality and a personal touch for your customers which is very much appreciated in this indifferent world. Keep up the good work!
"There are no hidden fees or added diesel fuel taxes or anything like some of the other companies do."
Eduard and Verena Clement, Switzerland, June-July 2018
From the very first communication we had, we felt as if we finally found a man that we could trust and we have not been disappointed. There are no hidden fees or added diesel fuel taxes or anything like some of the other companies do. We absolutely loved the Van, perfect to all our needs. Kenrick gives a fantastic service and is always at the end of the phone for almost everything. New Zealand Frontiers is highly recommended. If we ever get the chance to visit New Zealand again, we will rent with Kenrick again without even contemplating other companies.
"Fantastic service and always at the end of the phone for any minor hitches and advice."
Bruce and Renee White, Australia, March 2018
We are Kiwis who have lived in Perth for the past 30 years and we carried out extensive search online for a reliable campervan company for a 2 week home visit. We came across New Zealand Frontiers, a small Auckland firm that had previous rave reviews. We booked. That was the right move and Kenrick, the friendly owner, made our whole booking and trip a breeze. Fantastic service and always at the end of the phone for any minor hitches and advice. GPS commentary was really appreciated, brushing us up on and expanding our history of the places we visited. Kenrick delivered the campervan to our holiday stay in Auckland, gave a full handover and off we went on our 2000km, central North Island trip from coast to coast. The campervan was well equipped and comfortable. Boon to have everything included and no hidden costs. Thanks Kenrick, you have our highest recommendation and we will look to you again on a future NZ visit.
"Our van suited us perfectly and was in top condition."
Paul and Jeanette Roth, Australia, March 2018
Thanks for the great time. Our van suited us perfectly and was in top condition. It had everything we wanted and we had an amazing time. Excellent service and communication by Kenrick!! Can highly recommend.
"Faultless and well worth the cost involved"
Helen Flanagan and Margaret O'Hanlon, Ireland, February-March 2018
We were so lucky to have rented our Camper Van from New Zealand Frontiers. The personal service provided by Kenrick was faultless and well worth the cost involved. We felt really secure in the knowledge that any problems or queries would be answered positively and they were. He was very thorough in introducing us to the features of the van, the services available for campers in NZ both on the North and South islands, providing maps, locations, and a super 'Sat Nav' which gave the history and legends of New Zealand. He answered the phone immediately and dealt with our queries promptly and efficiently, we couldn't have wished for more. Not alone that, he brought the van to us in Auckland and also arranged for it to be picked up from us at the departure gate in Christchurch airport as we left after a superb 5 weeks in New Zealand. Highly recommended.
"It really was a trip of a lifetime and we have fallen in love with life on the road in a campervan."
Helen Flanagan and Margaret O'Hanlon, Ireland, February-March 2018
We had a super experience traveling New Zealand in your campervan. It really was a trip of a lifetime and we have fallen in love with life on the road in a campervan. It was a very comfortable and just big enough, even though it was regarded as a small van in some camp site which made it easier to park. It was also reassuring to know that we would always get a reply from you if we had a problem. Thanking you again for helping us have such a great holiday in New Zealand.
"If you are considering hiring a motorhome in New Zealand I can certainly recommend New Zealand Frontiers."
David and Julie Frost, U.K., February-March 2018
Just arrived home from our second trip with New Zealand Frontiers. I think these reviews say it all. Our previous experience was of a well-run, efficient organisation and as always Kenrick was friendly, professional and on top of his game. If you are considering hiring a motorhome in New Zealand I can certainly recommend New Zealand Frontiers.
"New Zealand Frontiers is a small company with big heart and personal touch."
Brian and Ann Parsons, Canada, February 2018
"Amazing" is the best way to describe our New Zealand trip, as well as our experience with New Zealand Frontiers and owner Kenrick Mitchell. I will admit we were sceptical while booking on line from Canada. We had no idea what to expect and placed our faith in the many great reviews we had read about Kenrick and his company. We were not disappointed. Kenrick is a professional through and through and it shows in the immaculate condition in which he keeps his camper vans. New Zealand Frontiers is a small company with big heart and personal touch. You know instantly when you make Kenrick's acquaintance that you are in good hands. He went well out of his way to make sure we had the camper delivered at a time and place most convenient for us. He takes care of all the details and makes sure you are fully briefed on every aspect of them. It made it easy for us to enjoy a worry free trip. If you are in search of a camper van rental in New Zealand, we would highly recommend Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers.
"We felt as if we finally found a company that we could trust and we have not been disappointed."
Alexander Detremmerie and Janne Scheper, Belgium, February 2018
We had been looking for ages which campervan company we could sufficiently trust to deliver us a carefree holiday in New Zealand when we stumbled upon Kenrick's New Zealand Frontiers. Boy, are we glad that we did.
Kenrick is a great and professional entrepreneur, who takes great pride in and is dedicated to delivering personal travel advice, extremely clean and well-equipped motorhomes as well as an overall pleasant company-customer experience. From the very first communication we had, we felt as if we finally found a (small) company that we could trust and we have not been disappointed.
Our rental experience was A+ from beginning until its very end and we had no complaints whatsoever. Kenrick answers all of your questions with great patience, provides tips regarding itineraries and changes ferry bookings upon request. And everything is always done with a fantastic personal touch - you never feel as if something is annoying or you're a number that needs to be processed.
The only hiccup we had is a pebble which caused a hole in our fresh water tank. That issue was handled with equal professionalism, by booking us into a mechanic place in Kaikoura the day after we discovered the hole. We even got a 0.5 day refund because we got obviously stuck in Kaikoura when the repairs were being undertaken, knowing that everybody was stuck there anyway because of extreme weather conditions.
The interesting conversations about New Zealand society, how it differs from Europe, the All Blacks as well as stops at points of interest in the Auckland area are things you get for free during the drives to/from drop-off on top off the excellent service you do pay for.
NZ Frontiers is highly recommended. If we ever get the chance to visit NZ a second time, we will rent with Kenrick again without even contemplating other companies.
"The interior was all spotlessly clean on delivery and everything worked as it should"
Martin Chambers and Deb Hancock, Australia, January 2018
We have just returned from our New Zealand holiday, the first 11 days of which were in a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers, and can only describe the total experience as a 10/10. Would really like to give it eleven but there was no button for that!
After reading some reviews of rental companies we decided to go with Kenrick's company due to the overwhelming number of positive reviews, and mentions of personal service and attention to details, and have to say we totally agree. The Ford Transit vehicle was ideal for our purpose, being just large enough to be comfortable and spacious enough for two people without being so large that parking in a regular car-sized spot would not be possible. The interior was all spotlessly clean on delivery and everything worked as it should. Changing the layout from bench seating and dining table to the large double bed setup took a few short minutes, and when the weather was suitable, the outside chairs and table provided were a great place to sit back and take in the amazing NZ scenery. The Kruse GPS commentary was a highlight as well, giving valuable information along the way, with suggestions of things to see and do just as you approach towns and areas of interest, as well as interesting snippets on NZ history and wildlife. So much so that it was our only audio we used.
But the most impressive part of the whole experience was, as so many others have reported, Kenrick's personal, friendly service. Right from the initial booking process the experience was so different to dealing with a large multinational. The van was delivered to our airport hotel the morning after our arrival and we were given a full run-down on the features and processes involved with its operation. After this we drove Kenrick back to his house and continued on our way.
After 2300 km of traveling the North Island, we returned the van to Kenrick, and he drove us to our Auckland hotel, with a stop along the way at One Tree Hill lookout.
All in all, a great way to see a great country.
"We loved it!"
Don and Catrin Wilkes, U.K., December 2017-January 2018
We cannot fault our experience with New Zealand Frontiers and Kenrick. We found the company through researching the internet once we had booked our flights. We came across so many positive comments about the service received that we decided to give them a go. We were not disappointed!
The costings were clear and Kenrick promptly answered any questions we had. During our planning of our itinerary, Kenrick gave us advice on timescales, where to go and what to expect. He even booked our ferry tickets for us. When we landed at Auckland, Kenrick kindly collected us from the airport and went through all the paperwork before dropping us off at our hotel. Kenrick provided us with everything we needed in the van. We loved it!
We definitely recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone planning a roadtrip round New Zealand! We'll be back again in the future and will be getting back in touch with Kenrick to book our van again!
"There are no hidden fees"
Dave and Jamee Jenen, U.S.A., December 2017-January 2018
My wife and I rented a camper van from New Zealand Frontiers for 10 days on our honeymoon. It is a smaller company that I stumbled upon on Rankers and I'm glad I did. The owner, Kenrick Mitchell, went above and beyond what I would expect for a vehicle rental. We were traveling from the U.S. and it was our first time in NZ. Prior to the trip, and even prior to booking with the company, Kenrick was extremely helpful (over email) answering various questions about the rental, the country, and possible itineraries. Kenrick is fully transparent with his pricing. What he quotes you is what you pay. There are no hidden fees. We could tell Kenrick takes great pride in ensuring his customers have a positive experience. The vehicle had no issues and was spotless. He delivered the vehicle to our hotel and gave us a full walk through of the camper van and its features. The vehicle was as advertised and came with a GPS. He also provided maps which proved useful. We didn't need to contact him, but felt good to know we had 24 hour road side assistance if needed. We felt so comfortable with Kenrick that we almost listed him as our emergency contact while in NZ which says something. Upon return of the vehicle, it was fun to catch up with Kenrick and we even received a follow up email asking how the remainder of our trip was. Overall, there's really nothing more he could have done to improve the great experience we had. One FYI, it may clearly say so on the website, but please note his vehicles are manual transmission.
"The van along with the service from New Zealand Frontiers was top notch."
Jay and Valerie Lawton, U.S.A., November-December 2017
Kenrick the owner of New Zealand Frontiers met my wife and I at Auckland Airport with the campervan. It was Ford Transit Camper Van and it was in new condition and very well stocked. We had all the cooking and linens along with chairs and a table for outdoor eating. He gave us a good lesson on the ins and outs of the van and we were off on our adventure within an hour of landing. The van along with the service from New Zealand Frontiers was top notch. I would highly recommend using New Zealand Frontiers for any campervan rental in New Zealand. We put over 4098 km on the van in 14 days on both the North and South Island and never had any issues with the van. They are also very straight forward with their price. There are no hidden fees or added diesel fuel taxes or anything like some of the other companies do.
"Cannot recommend highly enough for a top rate personal service"
Andrew and Sandra Jose, U.K., October-December 2017
We had a 6 week tour of New Zealand with a van from New Zealand Frontiers and cannot recommend highly enough for a top rate personal service. We were met from our early flight and given a thorough tour of the van and its operation before setting off all with a nice cup of tea and biscuits as an added bonus! Kenrick was happy for us to call with any queries or problems we came across while touring and provided some really good tips for routes and places to visit, this provided a useful safety net for our trip. The Transit campervan we had was a perfect size for the two of us and equipped with everything we needed, 6 weeks and 5000 miles just disappeared so easily. The van was very easy to drive, it was not too wide like some others we had seen and felt more like a car on the road. We stayed mainly in DOC or free sites and only needed to stay in pay sites when we wanted to use the washing machine. We booked our ferry to the South Island via New Zealand Frontiers as this was totally flexible and a reduced rate, we changed dates easily with a quick phone call when we realised we needed a few more days on the North Island. The Kruse satnav provided gave a commentary with info on places of interest along our route and local history and folklore, we took some of the recommended detours and were rewarded with some lovely scenery and spots to visit. Using a smaller company we feel we gained first class personal service and attention to detail, nothing was too much trouble and provided us with a trouble free holiday experience.
"Campervan never missed a beat in 6 weeks and 7,000 kilometres"
John McCready, U.K., June-July 2017
Great experience from start to finish. Brilliant service from Kenrick. Campervan never missed a beat in 6 weeks and 7,000 kilometres. Comfy bed and everything you need.
"Response time is terrific when requesting information"
John and Marg Graham, Canada, February-March 2017
One of the smaller camper van rentals companies, but because of that everything is more personal. Response time is terrific when requesting information. The personal touch is obvious in the care and preparation of the vehicles. We had our campervan for 7 weeks without a single issue and for me that is truly what I pay for, a single down day is too much to pay even with 7 weeks, I can only imagine the cost on a shorter time. I would not hesitate to recommend this company.
"Professional, efficient, organised and friendly"
David and Julie Frost, U.K., February-March 2017
New Zealand Frontiers is a small company run by a man who takes pride in the service he provides. Kenrick is professional, efficient, organised and friendly. The van was clean and tidy, well maintained and was well equipped with everything we needed. Kenrick met us at a prearranged time and place, gave us a comprehensive introduction to the van and answered all our questions. We set off on our travels confident that we had a made a good choice with New Zealand Frontiers and our holiday experience proved that to be the case. We plan to return to New Zealand in the near future and will have no hesitation in using this company again.
"The price quoted literally included everything"
Timo Herzel and Simone Oswald, Germany, September-October 2016
We booked our campervan with New Zealand Frontiers due to the reviews on Rankers. And, we weren't disappointed at all! Kenrick, owner of New Zealand Frontiers, gave us a thorough introduction to the van after delivering it to our hotel in Auckland. The contact prior to pick up and through the rental period was easy and pleasant. Kenrick even gave us a brief overview on Wellington and showed us around at Mt Victoria after drop-off. We could actually feel prior to and during the rental period that New Zealand Frontiers is a business operated by its owner who cares about the vans and his customers. The van was in an excellent condition and everything worked well. The size of the van is perfect for two people, enough storage room and good for driving and parking. The price quoted literally included everything, in particularly access to toll roads and the Kruse GPS navigation system (incl. commentary on the history of and POIs of the region currently driving though). No extra costs. If you have the chance to get a van from New Zealand Frontiers, we recommend that you don't even consider another company.
"Everything was clean and in great shape"
Lena and Chris Käufer, Germany, April-May 2016
We rented our campervan for 3.5 weeks. Starting in Auckland (where we were fetched by Kenrick at our hostel) we explored the northern island. After 10 days we took the ferry from Wellington to Picton - thank you Kenrick for the uncomplicated booking-adjustments one day in advance! We spent the rest of our time in NZ traveling the southern island, arriving in Christchurch where Kenrick met us at the airport and picked up the campervan. We had a super comfortable time in our "Fronti". Actually we slept much better in there than in our last stay with a "real" bed. There was everything we needed (and more) - lots of kitchen utensils, cutlery and dishes, towels an linen, chairs and a table, cleaning supplies, DVDs and much more (we really loved the fun Kruse travel guide - that way we learned so much about New Zealand!). Everything was clean and in great shape. When we had a problem, Kenrick was always available and helpful. Camping in New Zealand with New Zealand Frontiers was awesome. Thanks Kenrick!
"The van provided was well prepared and performed faultlessly"
Neil and Mary Edmands, Australia, April-May 2016
We have just completed a 40 day trip around the North and South islands (5800kms). We based our choice of Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers on internet comments and reviews and found them to be well deserved. The van provided was well prepared and performed faultlessly during our trip. Kenrick was always available to take our calls and answer any questions. He provided us with useful information before our trip and a thorough briefing on the van and New Zealand driving on our arrival. The van is equipped with a GPS with informative commentary on NZ that added to our enjoyment of the trip. All our arrangements with Kenrick for pick up and drop off etc. went off without a hitch. We thank Kenrick for helping us enjoy a most wonderful experience.
"New Zealand Frontiers helped make our New Zealand trip a huge success"
Robin and Wanda Hewson, Canada, March-April 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
After considerable research we booked New Zealand Frontiers for an 18 day trip of the North and South Islands in March. The booking process was very straightforward. Kenrick met us at the Auckland Airport and he provided a thorough briefing of the campervan and New Zealand driving tactics which we welcomed. I am a bit of a car nut. I can say with confidence our campervan was meticulously prepared. We spoke with Kenrick a few times during our journey. It was always easy to contact him and he answered all of our questions clearly. Our camper van was equipped with a Kruse GPS which provides a commentary as you drive related to the locale you are passing through. This GPS device significantly contributed to our understanding of New Zealand and the success of our trip. The drop-off process (in our case Christchurch) was very simple. In summary Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers helped make our New Zealand trip a huge success.
"Overall, the campervan was easy to drive and had a lot more storage space than we thought."
Bill Kan and Pam Chan, U.S.A., March-April 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We were very happy calling our NZ Frontiers campervan home during our journey in NZ. Everything went smoothly over three weeks when we traveled over 5,000 km covering the North and South Islands. The campervan was well equipped. It had everything we needed for comfort at fully supported holiday parks and for freedom camping. Everything was tidy and worked without a hitch once we got rolling.
Kenrick, the owner, was very helpful in planning our trip and during our time in NZ. Contacting him with the toll free number was the fastest while we were in NZ. Kenrick always got back to us promptly with answers to our questions and useful information.
Kenrick greeted us at the airport upon our arrival. He gave us a thorough review of the campervan and tips on driving in NZ. It took some effort to get used to the roundabouts. Overall, the campervan was easy to drive and had a lot more storage space than we thought. After driving over 5,000 km, we appreciated using diesel instead of petrol.
Before handing over the keys, Kenrick noticed that the batteries were not holding charge as expected. He promptly took us to the repair shop and got the batteries checked and replaced before we started our trip. We kept an eye on the battery monitor since they would be used to power our lights and water while freedom camping.
Radio reception was not good for much of the trip. We listened to the Best of NZ feature on the GPS that came with the campervan. It automatically described different areas of NZ as we drove through them. Otherwise, bring your own music for the drive and DVDs to watch in the evenings.
We will contact NZ Frontiers again the next time we visit NZ. It is a small company with personalized service and well thought out vehicles.
"Always available for advice and to answer any questions or take care of any problems."
Sandy and Michael Nation, U.S.A., March 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
What can I say about New Zealand Frontiers? Just that Kenrick Mitchell, the owner, was a major reason for the success of our 25 day campervan tour of New Zealand. He provided an immaculate vehicle with all the necessities along with maps and guidebooks. He was always available for advice and to answer any questions or take care of any problems. He made our ferry reservations and even rescheduled when the need arose. Since we were staying almost a month in a foreign country, it was very important to us to have someone we could count on. We found that with Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers.
"The van was beautifully prepared and completely clean."
Nefyn and Susan Provis-Evans, U.K., March 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I have just returned from a 25 day/3000 mile trip in a New Zealand Frontiers campervan. I have previously hired campervans in Australia from the big name companies, but the experience of hiring one from a small, efficient and customer-aware company such as New Zealand Frontiers was a very much better experience in every way. Firstly the booking dialogue beforehand with Kenrick, the company owner, then being picked up from our hotel in Auckland (and returned at the end of the trip to the airport), and then the actual experience of the van. The van was beautifully prepared and completely clean, and as a vehicle was perfect for New Zealand's roads and very comfortable. We had both cold and hot weather, and the van is equipped to deal well with both. Kenrick made sure we understood how the van worked, so we were not cast loose without fully understanding what to do as often happens with other companies. What was exceptional though was the degree to which you could trust Kenrick to have thought of everything, which he had, and to know that if something had gone wrong it would have been sorted out (it didn't, but it was good to know Kenrick was a phone call away). Kenrick had also removed the need for any extra expenses, the only thing we had to pay for was the diesel. It was also a pleasure to meet and talk with Kenrick. Despite the length of our journey we would like to return and if we do we will be using New Zealand Frontiers again. I really cannot think of anything that could have been done better by Kenrick's company.
"This was a truly memorable holiday and the motorhome was a great way to see this beautiful country."
Mary Coward and Julie Perkins, U.K., March 2016
"We had excellent service from New Zealand Frontiers. Our initial enquiries were dealt with quickly and efficiently and we were very impressed with the friendly help and advice we received. They were willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our visit to NZ was the best possible experience, providing advice, maps and booking our inter-island ferry for us. The motorhome was well equipped and a suitable size for 2 people. It was easy to drive and we enjoyed getting off the beaten track, using some of the Department of Conservation campsites. This was a truly memorable holiday and the motorhome was a great way to see this beautiful country. I would recommend this company - lovely friendly and personal service from Kenrick."
"Reliable, honest, personal service"
Jack and Ela Bryniarski, U.K., February-March 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This was a holiday of a lifetime for us .We recently toured NZ for 51 days without a hitch. We are so grateful to Kenrick who provided us with a superbly reliable clean comfortable camper van. Kenrick met us at the airport and we were inducted into the use and the equipment on board. The van behaved impeccably. We managed 6136 km. And sadly had to leave the van at the airport. These Ford vans are exceptional as they are easy to drive and park, and will squeeze by opposing traffic comfortably; we traveled on many side roads and gravel tracks to get to our bush walks, without worry. Kenrick provides an excellent reliable honest personal service. (My wife asked me at the end of our trip "How did you find such an excellent person?" I replied... (I read very, very, carefully various forums such as Rankers and TripAdvisor) The van was equipped with a propex heater (used twice in South Island), a microwave, shower/loo, hob etc., tv/dvd (never used... too tired), and the best sauté pan in the whole world. We can heartily recommend New Zealand Frontiers, and we are already planning a return trip.
"Since everything you need is included in the rental there is no attempt to up-sell"
Randy and Kim Allemeier, U.S.A., January-March 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We rented a campervan for 35 days and drove approximately 5800 kilometers covering both the north and south island. The campervan was absolutely spotless, well supplied and very well maintained. In fact, we met friends from home toward the very end of trip and that thought the campervan was brand new. We had absolutely no issues with the van, it ran extremely well was comfortable and made the trip a real pleasure. On top of all this Kenrick is a great businessman to work worth. Kenrick was helpful and professional. Best of all there are no hidden costs with New Zealand Frontiers and since everything you need is included in the rental there is no attempt to up-sell. Would rent again from New Zealand Frontiers without hesitation or looking further.
"Professional, thorough and kind."
Randy and Kim Allemeier, U.S.A., January-March 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Very good communication before the trip with Kenrick. Professional, thorough and kind. Campervan was well equipped and comfortable.
"The experience was awesome!"
Hernan Chaves and Micaela Eguia, Argentina, January 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We rented a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers last January, and the experience was awesome! My and my wife have never traveled in a campervan/motorhome, but after a couple of hours of Kenrick explaining us everything we needed to know, we were confident enough to start our trip. Kenrick also helped us to adjust some details of our itinerary with some great tips! The van is fully equipped and works perfectly. We highly recommend renting a van from New Zealand Frontiers!
"The campervan was spotless, as if we were the first to ever use it"
Awrasa Montricok and Andrea Campo, Italy, December 2015 - January 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Renting a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers is like borrowing a camper from your friend who loves both you and his van. Kenrick, the owner, genuinely cared about our trip and truly wanted us to have the amazing honeymoon we absolutely enjoyed. The campervan was spotless, as if we were the first to ever use it, and it was equipped with everything we could have needed for our trip. We could call Kenrick for any questions, concerns, and travel planning help and he would take care of everything and make us feel completely comfortable. His vans cost a little more than the others to rent, but with the kind of service and peace of mind you get by renting from Kenrick, it's totally worth it. We are definitely renting from him again and recommending him to anyone who is looking to rent a campervan in New Zealand!
"We have enjoyed our camper van experience more than we can ever say"
Tiggy and Chris Booth-Jones, U.K., December 2015 - January 2016 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
If I could give Kenrick 100 out of 10 I would. We rented one of his vans for 30 days and from the very first email I felt more than happy, in fact his sense of humour added to the pleasure! On a more serious note, the service you get from New Zealand Frontiers is over and above anything one could possibly imagine. The van was immaculate and the introduction to the ins and outs was easy and sympathetically explained! We had the odd query on our travels and it was great to have an instant response to our free call. You can keep the big companies, their service and care is way below New Zealand Frontiers. Right down to my stupidity in claiming the wrong stored suitcase. Kenrick was busy preparing a van for the next day but without a grumble bought out the right case to us at the airport. You are a complete star Mr Mitchell... and we have enjoyed our camper van experience more than we can ever say. So folks, if you are after a two man van, look no further. Recommend New Zealand Frontiers... ABSOLUTELY 100%
"What we appreciated was that New Zealand Frontiers' quotation had no hidden costs"
Farid Baharuddin and Clara Poon, Singapore, December 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We rented a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers for two weeks in early December and had an excellent experience driving from Queenstown to Auckland. Much of that experience would not have been possible without Kenrick, his attention to detail and his excellent service. He met us at Queenstown airport and as this was our very first campervan experience, he very patiently went through every aspect of a campervan holiday: the equipment available on board, effluent disposal, the rules of freedom camping and the rules of the road. As we didn't usually drive on manual transmission on vehicles this large, he accompanied us as we took a short drive around Queenstown to ensure that we were alright driving the van. Our ferry booking from Picton to Wellington was also handled by Kenrick and when we needed to bring forward the ferry booking or when we needed advice on the campervan, he was only a phone call away and answers promptly. The van was clean, well-maintained and well-equipped with all that we needed for our trip: all the necessary utensils, a stove, refrigerator, microwave, TV/DVD player (and 3 DVDs) and a GPS with great commentaries. There was one day on which we experienced problems with the indicators on the dashboard. Kenrick was just a phone call away and monitored the situation and based on the symptoms, assured us that the indicators were false positives. As it turned out, he was right; the problem did not occur again for the rest of the trip and we arrived safely at all our intended locations. What we appreciated was that New Zealand Frontiers' quotation had no hidden costs and that terms and conditions of the rental was spelt out very clearly in the contract, which Kenrick went through in sufficient detail with us at the beginning of our trip. Kenrick has a wealth of experience in what he does and this was very reassuring to us. We enjoyed our campervan experience thoroughly and would like to commend Kenrick on the great work done.
"We could not have had a more positive camper van experience"
Mark and Sara Freitas, U.S.A., December 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I want to give a very positive shout out to Kenrick Mitchell and his New Zealand Frontiers Camper Van Rentals. This is a family owned business and Kenrick offers a very personal touch from meeting you at the airport to the quality and cleanliness of his vehicles. Everything is included from linens, French press coffee maker, camping chairs to a small vacuum cleaner if needed. He even relieved us the headache of booking our ferry crossing. Kenrick also took out some of the anxiety of driving on the opposite side of the road for the first time by sharing rules of the road, especially roundabouts. We could not have had a more positive camper van experience. You need not look further if you are looking for someone who is vested in making your road trip the very best.
"We always felt proud of our camping van next to the others!"
Elise Lau and Patrick Travanca, France, November - December 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My husband and I chose New Zealand for our honeymoon trip as it was the furthest and most exotic place to us from home (Paris). We spent 2 weeks going over many different websites looking for the camping van which would be our home for 3 weeks. We chose New Zealand Frontiers over others because of its rankings and great reviews and what it seemed to promise. We were on a budget but it being our honeymoon we also didn't want to do away with simple luxuries such as a toilet and shower inside the camping van. We also liked knowing that there wasn't any hidden fees and no hidden forbidden routes as we wanted to roam the country as we pleased. I am happy to say that we totally do not regret our choice! Right from the start Kenrick was with us with our travel planning and even helped us book the ferry from Wellington to Picton. This was our first experience with a camping van and we were thrilled with all the amenities onboard (even an ironing board!) and couldn't believe how comfortably we slept. Not three hours after we started our trip, we got into a small car accident whereby we broke a side mirror (highly recommend daily car insurance for a worry-free trip!). Kenrick came to our rescue and was able to order replacement part quickly and find us a garage that fit our itinerary so that we didn't have to change one part of our trip. We also called him up for a restaurant recommendation in Wellington as we wanted to celebrate our honeymoon and he gladly did so, providing us with several restaurant names. We slept in many camping sites and always felt proud of our camping van next to the others! It truly was a home away from home! All in all, this trip is one we won't forget in a long long time and we hope to visit it again with New Frontier with the children next time. Until then!
"Worked out exceptionally well"
Gayle and Paul Sohi, Canada, November 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Thank you to Kenrick for helping us ease into the new world of camper vans. It was a pleasure dealing with Kenrick from the outset. Because he has a relatively small group of vans, he is able to provide personalized detailed service. The van was delivered to our hotel where we were given detailed instructions as to how to maintain the vehicle. At first it was a bit overwhelming, but as we headed out on the road and started our new experiences in camp grounds, it all became clear. It was perfect having a self-contained van so that we could do some freedom camping. Worked out exceptionally well. The van is fairly confined and at first it seemed too small, but we soon had a choreographed routine that worked very well! On some of the smaller windy roads it was a definite assets having a camper van rather than a larger RV. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND NZ FRONTIERS!!
"Right from the start we fell in love with this camper van"
Tim Blong and Leah Oliver, U.S.A., September 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Six months before taking my trip to New Zealand, I started researching camper vans. After looking at a bunch, New Zealand Frontiers stood out as the major front runner. Right from the start my experience with Kenrick was amazing, he was very prompt in returning emails and answered all my questions and was very informative. The day after arriving in Auckland, Kenrick came to our hotel and gave us a thorough over view of the van. Right from the start we fell in love with this camper van. By the end of the trip we were sorry to part from it. It was the perfect van. It was roomy enough for the two of us. It was very comfortable and had all the conveniences we needed. I also like that it was big enough to be comfortable in but it wasn't a huge van to drive. I felt comfortable and confident driving it in all weather conditions. I loved that it was self-contained and also had the ability to plug into camp ground power. It truly became are home away from home. Throughout the trip Kenrick was available if we had any questions which I think is a huge benefit and big in customer care. I can't rave enough about our whole experience. I'm excited to return one day and I most definitely will be using a New Zealand Frontiers camper van!!
"We were picked up from our hotel in Auckland"
Ellie Tew and Will Waine, U.K., August 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We had a fantastic week in a New Zealand Frontiers camper van. Kenrick's customer service was first rate throughout - right from the emails and communication beforehand, through a detailed and thorough explanation of every inch of the van and the paperwork, and some excellent tips of places to visit on our holiday (even some suggestions for after our rental had finished!). We were picked up from our hotel in Auckland, and given a mini tour of Wellington when he came to collect the van from us there. When we did have a problem, Kenrick put us at ease, got it sorted that afternoon and we were on our way the next morning as planned. The van was comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything from extra blankets to picnic chairs - everything we needed and more. But for Kenrick's dedication to his customers alone, we cannot recommend New Zealand Frontiers highly enough.
"The entire trip was seamless and we'll be back in the future!"
Jason and Robyn Cronk, U.S.A., July-August 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I made a trip down to New Zealand this August and did a great deal of research on camper van rentals. After seeing the overwhelming number of positive reviews on New Zealand Frontiers, I contacted Kenrick and was immediately impressed. From the preliminary planning stages of our trip, Kenrick was helpful in planning our 11 day vacation. As promised, Kenrick was waiting to pick us up with our van. From there, a quick trip with great conversation was made to his house. Our check-in process was efficient and thorough, with all van features demonstrated and our questions answered. We generally try to reserve lodging, etc., with smaller businesses and New Zealand Frontiers exemplifies the reasons why. The personal approach Kenrick uses was truly a joy. Instead of feeling like a 'pick a number', stand-in-line, cold and impersonal, nobody-really-cares-about-you customer, we were treated to a great personable guy who passionately runs his business from home. The van was very thoughtfully put together with many extras, including heavier bedding for our winter trip, cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies and a great GPS system. Even on chilly and windy winter nights we were warm and toasty tucked into the queen-sized bed. It was great having our 'house' right there with us after a ski day, nice and warm, stocked with food and beer. The diesel van was perfect for racking up tons of kilometres inexpensively. The entire trip was seamless and we'll be back in the future! We can't recommend Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers enough! Many kudos and thanks to you Kenrick, you really helped us with a great vacation!!
"Impeccable customer service"
Susie and Mitchel Ideue, U.S.A., May 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This is our first time campervanning. We had two goals in selecting the campervan company. We wanted peace of mind, that, 1) we would be given great customer service, from start to finish; and, 2) assuming that we were responsible drivers/caretakers of the van, that our insurance bond would include coverage for any damage to any part of the vehicle (glass surfaces, top of vehicle, bottom of vehicle, all interior, all exterior and that's what we got). This means that we wanted all costs to be transparent up front, and to be able to pay a reasonable amount of bond (aka security deposit) upfront without added hidden fees and further bond amounts when we actually showed up in person to get the van.
Kenrick Mitchell, the owner and founder of New Zealand Frontiers, met both our goals beautifully. Impeccable customer service from owner Kenrick Mitchell. We didn't have to pay for tolls, we didn't need to bring extra camping gear because all the essentials were nicely supplied. We didn't need to bring a GPS for NZ roads. Kenrick is a professional, very sincere, respectable, with high credibility and a man of integrity. Kenrick is who you want to deal with, he's the owner of the company and is dedicated to making the customer not just satisfied but delighted.
We'd rent from Kenrick again. Research all you want and you'll soon discover that you, too, will choose Kenrick Mitchell for peace of mind!
"A delightfully memorable trip."
Alan and Ilona Largue, South Africa, May 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This was our second experience with New Zealand Frontiers - our first being in October 2005. Both of our experiences have been nothing short of superb. From Kenrick's engaging nature and commitment to ensuring our enjoyment of this breathtakingly beautiful country, to the impeccable and painstakingly maintained vehicle; everything came together to make for a delightfully memorable trip. Despite the challenging winter weather, the vehicle was cozy at night and pleasantly cool on warmer days. The design and layout of the interior is admirably efficient, and the decor is aesthetically pleasing. All things considered, I believe you'll be hard pressed to find better value for money, and with owner-operator, Kenrick Mitchell at the helm of his company - you know you're getting his best attention. I have no hesitation in recommending New Zealand Frontiers and I'm already saving for my next trip.
"Despite the winter temperatures, the vehicle was cosy and warm."
Alan and Ilona Largue, South Africa, May 2015
This is our second visit to New Zealand, our previous trip being in 2005, when we had a most agreeable experience with Kenrick and a New Zealand Frontiers campervan. During this 2015 trip, it was with a certain amount of cynicism brought on by advancing years, that I wondered if New Zealand Frontiers had been able to maintain its unsurpassed standard of customer service, and I confess to having done some research of other companies prior to making contact with Kenrick.
Hiring a campervan for any length of time naturally entails a considerable outlay; a sum which one hopes will yield an acceptable return in fun, adventure, enjoyment and hassle-free driving. When scrutinising competitive offerings, one's attention is initially drawn to the low pricing in the adverts of many hire companies. However, after carefully considering ALL the costs (selected additional items such as insurance, LPG gas, hire of optional extras etc.), quality of product and the personal attention of the owner of the company, we concluded that New Zealand Frontiers not only offered extremely competitive pricing, but could offer the most value for money overall.
Keeping pace with his larger competitors, Kenrick has upgraded his fleet and we were most gratified to take delivery of a recent model bearing the now familiar New Zealand Frontiers livery. The well-appointed vehicle was in impeccable condition and clearly painstakingly maintained. A welcome addition has been the installation of a flat screen television/DVD combination; ideal for snuggling up on a rainy winter evening or when a long walk on the beach becomes a bit of a challenge.
If you're new to exploring a country in a campervan, and are unfamiliar with the ways and workings of this type of vehicle, I am happy to assuage your fears. Kenrick, in his inimitably engaging and personable style, takes time to run through the various aspects of happy vehicular holidaying. With endless patience he answered all our questions about maintaining the inbuilt shower and loo and the emptying of tanks - surprisingly easy as it turns out.
Throughout our travels, the vehicle behaved superbly and at camp sites, all the equipment and facilities operated without fault. Despite the winter temperatures, the vehicle was cosy and warm and the inbuilt loo was a most welcome alternative to the bracing early morning walk to the ablution block! All too soon, our most enjoyable break came to an end and we had to return to the vehicle.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better alternative to exploring this breathtakingly beautiful country - and with New Zealand Frontiers (to coin a phrase) it's the way to go. I am of the opinion that New Zealand Frontiers' outstanding customer service and product offering exemplifies the Kiwi experience and Kenrick has played no small part in our decision to make New Zealand our permanent home.
"The countryside is beautiful, and the people are kind, friendly and generous."

This is our first time to New Zealand and we will return. The country side is beautiful, and the people are kind, friendly and generous.
"The GPS system with the en route commentary is a great idea."
Dave and Sue Watson, U.K., Apr 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We had a three week holiday in New Zealand in April this year in a motorhome hired from New Zealand Frontiers. We would recommend this company 100%. The owner Kenrick made the whole holiday so worth-while. From the moment we started making arrangements for the holiday he kept in touch with us very promptly with any information we required. On arrival in New Zealand he met us at the airport and made us very welcome. We then travelled to his house to start the handover of the motorhome. This was done very with great care as not miss anything we should need to know. The van was presented clean and well equipped for a comfortable holiday. After the handover was completed we sat in his conservatory and completed the paper work with a refreshing drink of fruit juice. We left his house feeling we had made a good choice of hirer. The whole three weeks holiday was superb, we had no problems with the van. The GPS system with the en route commentary is a great idea. On returning the van Kenrick took us into the Auckland to our hotel. This was just part of the superb service from Kenrick. During our travels we met other people using Kenrick's motorhomes and they were very pleased with service.
"The solar panel catered for our power needs over three days of camping at a non-powered site."
Bob and Kay Large, New Zealand, April 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Beautifully presented camper! Unlike many of the bigger firms, our hire from Frontiers was friendly, efficient and flexible. We were able to arrange pick-up and drop-off times and venue to suit our needs perfectly. Our van was immaculate and Kenrick provided a detailed briefing that set us up well. The solar panel catered for our power needs over three days of camping at a non-powered site. The GPS with commentary taught us new stuff about our own country - which made our trip that much more interesting! It's an ideal choice for local Aucklanders wishing to hire, whilst obviously serving overseas visitors just as well.
"No passing the buck or being placed on hold."
Mike and Sally Wagner, U.S.A., April 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Kia Ora! There comes a time to stop comparing dollars and dimes and pay attention to the recommendations of others. In planning our trip, we noted that Kenrick Mitchell's name kept appearing with rave reviews. We listened and have never been happier with our choice. Just spent three weeks covering over 4,000 miles on both islands. Van immaculate and in great condition. Septuagenarian husband had no problem driving or taking care of regular maintenance. Morning coffee on board was a joy and I managed to cook about half of our meals. Kenrick was always available during the months of preparation and while on the road we had immediate access for help via phone. Kenrick is the sole owner operator so there is no 'passing the buck' or being placed on hold. It was the trip of a lifetime for the two of us, and I encourage you to read all other recommendations on his site because they are all spot on (except no one has commented on his droll sense of humour!)
"There were no hidden extras in the prices we were given and I have to say the van was the cleanest rental I have ever seen."
John and Margaret McManus, U.K., March-April 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We went with New Zealand Frontiers based on other reviews we found on the internet. There were "Cheaper" companies around but as was pointed out in other reviews there were no hidden extras in the prices we were given. I have to say the van was the cleanest rental I have ever seen. Everything worked and worked well. The transit is a good size, with plenty of space but not so big that parking and driving it are any problem. Kenrick picked us up from the hotel in Auckland and went over the workings of the van (cooker, shower, toilet etc.) The Kruse sat nav had a great feature in that it would give commentary when passing though areas of interest. Kenrick arranged the ferry tickets to and from the South Island and basically made everything relaxed and easy. The vehicle itself was very well maintained and ran flawlessly during the three weeks we had it (Good ole EEA360). When we go again I will not be going anywhere else for the van.
"Would definitely recommend this company to anyone wanting to hire camper vans."
Bev and Terry Hoskyns-Abrahall, Australia, March 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I picked this company because his website said no hidden costs and also very detailed information about his vans. Kenrick was very efficient in dealing with my enquiries via email which was reassuring. The van was immaculate and obviously well looked after. The two berth van was suitable for us two and easy to drive around and getting into smaller spaces. Very easy to set up the bedding. Kenrick met us to drop off the van where he went through with it and showed us the GPS which also had history of the towns as we drove through them. Very informative. Would definitely recommend this company to anyone wanting to hire camper vans. Check his website and check the others and compare!!!!
"We are already thinking of returning sooner rather than later!"
Alan and Linda Fargher, U.K., January-March 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Our six week holiday was to be a holiday of a life time but we fell in love with the whole experience so much that we are already thinking of returning sooner rather than later! All the reviews regarding New Zealand Frontiers and Kenrick are top rate and ours will be no different. Our biggest compliment that we can offer is to say our next visit will be with New Zealand Frontiers and Kenrick. There is no need to look any further. Our whole experience from our first email contact with Kenrick to handing the van back in Christchurch was the best. We loved our van and even when parked next to some of the 'big boys' we never felt inferior - only ever superior with everything we needed in our neat van. We got places where others feared to tread, the van never missed a beat and with the onboard Kruse commentary we learnt so much about the country and its culture. The only thing we will change next time is - Start and finish our holiday in Auckland (Kenrick did strongly suggest this and we decided on Auckland - Christchurch)!!!! Cannot recommend New Zealand Frontiers enough.
"Having used New Zealand Frontiers in 2007 we didn't hesitate to book again"
Jennie and Ian Lamb, U.K., January-February 2015
Having used New Zealand Frontiers in 2007 we didn't hesitate to book again when we had the opportunity to return to New Zealand this year. The vehicle was excellent containing everything you need and more. The satnav was great for learning more about the area we were driving in and helpful in deciding which site to visit. We really appreciated the personal service from Kenrick and have recommended New Zealand Frontiers to friends. As a result of a great month in New Zealand we've now brought a campervan of our own and plan to take every opportunity to travel more in the U.K.
"No hidden extras or unpleasant surprises when we picked up the van."
Chris and Julie Hindley, U.K., January-February 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
For a complete camper van experience, New Zealand Frontiers was absolutely perfect for us. As a small operator Kenrick Mitchell is able to provide a very personal service, friendly, efficient and always with a gentle sense of humour. The web site and booking process told it exactly as it was, no hidden extras or unpleasant surprises when we picked up the van. The van we had, a Ford Transit, was well maintained, immaculately clean and well equipped. It was a dream to drive and for the two of us it was the ideal size - big enough to live in when you had to escape the weather or sand flies, but small enough to squeeze into parking places. The two real bonus points on the van were the solar panels, which drove the fridge, and the 20 litre hot water tank heated from the engine cooling system. This meant we could avoid hookups and holiday parks for much of our five week trip. So, freedom camping + cold beer + hot showers. Does it get any better? And when we did have the occasional problem, inevitable over such a long trip, Kenrick was always on the end of the telephone with advice and reassurance.
"We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending New Zealand Frontiers for your kiwi adventures."
Andrew and Jenny Pullan, U.K., January 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Our advice to anyone looking to hire a campervan in North Island is to stop looking right now and hire one of Kenrick's vans. We can only reiterate all the other recent reviews and say we could not have been happier with the booking process, the van itself, the handover procedure and the customer service provided by Kenrick. There were no hidden costs and the van was a pleasure to drive. It may have been older than some but was in perfect condition and clearly very well maintained. We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending New Zealand Frontiers for your kiwi adventures. It was a pleasure to meet you Kenrick.
"The vans are kept meticulously clean and maintained and you will get compliments from people walking by."
Matt and Carlee Sparkes, Canada, January 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
From the first email you'll send to the departing conversations of your trip Kenrick is an absolute professional. Fast responses by email before, and available by phone 24-7 while there, whether it be route information or a flat tire, any questions or concerns are quickly resolved.
For $50 NZD you can get a pre-loaded SIM card from Vodafone etc. which we highly recommend.
The campervan itself is a good mix of size vs agility, power vs comfort. It will surprise yourself and the drivers around you how it can keep pace with the traffic around you and yet be incredibly good on fuel. The roads in New Zealand can be quite twisted and the Ford Transit can handle them all quite easily. Kenrick is the owner/operator and his fleet is small, and that's good news for you because he's able to keep standards at an extremely high rate, the vans are kept meticulously clean and maintained and you will get compliments from people walking by.
You're shopping around right now and you're looking at prices and noticing these are a little bit higher, but those prices are lies, there are additional charges looming over you and you won't be sure until you hand in the keys. With Frontiers, the price is the price and there are way less restrictions on roads, drivers etc. Trust me just stop looking. Go do something productive. Plus those bright colours look ridiculous and you know it.
This was a honeymoon trip for us and one we won't ever forget. I'd give it an 11 if I could.
"A very pleasant and reliable company to deal with."
Robyn and David Lancaster, Australia, January 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We found New Zealand Frontiers to be a very pleasant and reliable company to deal with in our recent North Island trip. Minor issues were dealt with promptly and it was reassuring to have Kenrick's personal attention at all times. We found the Ford Transit Van to be completely comfortable and a good size for navigating some of the tricky twisty roads which we felt a larger vehicle may have struggled with. Although it was January school holidays we had no problem in finding camp spots and there were plenty of options from full blown holiday parks (which we tended to avoid) to smaller style motor home parks to DOC sites. We would have no hesitation in recommending this style of travel provided you are relatively mobile, and New Zealand Frontiers to give you the confidence to do it. At every level from booking through to final handover we received excellent and friendly service from Kenrick.
"The GPS with audio commentary was surprisingly fun to listen to."
Wilson and Ngaio Barry, Canada, December 2014 - January 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We're a bit late on this but wanted to add our voice to all the positive reviews here. We rented a van for 25 days over December-January. The website was very detailed and informative and we liked that all the costs were up front. Kenrick was fantastic and we'd happily use him again for camper van rentals. He answered all our questions before booking, made lots of great suggestions when we hit the road and was a pleasure to deal with. The van was awesome. Spotlessly clean, easy to drive and very comfortable to live in. My wife was five months pregnant and had no issues at all. Great queen size bed. Lots of smart storage. The GPS with audio commentary was surprisingly fun to listen to. Out of 25 days in the van we freedom camped about 15, farm stayed five days and paid for DOC sites the other five. We found that the Camper Mate app was the best for locating camping sites, dump stations, driving directions etc. More up to date than the Rankers app. OK 2 Stay is a great farm stay program especially for self-contained vans like Kenrick's. All the positive reviews here don't lie! Kenrick is the guy.
Fabio and Roberta Lentini, Italy, December 2014 - January 2015 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Do you have any expectations? New Zealand Frontiers is over your expectations... We stayed 17 days in December 2014. It was our honeymoon. We had NO experience with camper and camping before... New Zealand is the best country to visit with motorhome. New Zealand Frontiers is the best motorhome to visit New Zealand. Mister Kenrick Mitchell from New Zealand Frontiers is not only the boss. He is your father, he is your brother, he is your best friends in your holiday! You have a problem in New Zealand? Call Mr Kenrick. You have a problem with motorhome? Call Mr Kenrick. You have desire to know which place to eat? Call Mr Kenrick Mr Kenrick is present! h24 7/7 365/year
If I will come back again in New Zealand: 75% South Island, 25% North Island.. 200% NEW ZEALAND FRONTIERS. New Zealand Frontiers Motto is Vacations in Paradise. Me and my wife are ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!!
"For a personalised, smooth, and friendly experience, and a campervan you can be proud to drive, we highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers!"
John and Lauren Mullee, U.S.A., December 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My husband and I took a very last minute trip to New Zealand from California last Christmas, with my husband booking our campervan on our layover a few hours before landing in Auckland! With New Zealand Frontiers, this was no problem at all. Kendrick was flexible, welcoming and great to work with from start to finish! We loved our clean and attractively painted campervan, and slept comfortably every night. Kendrick even flew to Queenstown to pick up our van and drive it back to the Auckland area! For a personalised, smooth, and friendly experience, and a campervan you can be proud to drive, we highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers!
"It was wonderful to be able to open the rear doors (something which did not feature on many of the big homes) and enjoy stunning views."
Jan Compton and Alison Wreford, U.K., November - December 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We had a great holiday lasting about six weeks on both North and South Island using a motorhome from New Zealand Frontiers. Right from the first enquiry to finalising the booking Kenrick was extremely helpful, always replying promptly to any emails. One had the feeling that one was dealing with an individual and not a large faceless company. The motorhome was delivered on time to our central Auckland hotel in immaculate clean condition and Kenrick gave us a very thorough briefing on how everything worked, not complicated but good to have it all well explained in what was to be our home for 6 weeks. He also gave us comprehensive advice on NZ road use, camp sites etc. We noted he had even remembered our request for extra pillows which we had made several months before!
The van was well equipped and Kenrick kindly stored our suit cases and some excess items so our storage space was not too compromised. A word of advice to travelers regarding packing, less is really best, most camp sites had very good laundry facilities so large amounts of clothes are not needed! The van drove very well, not much different to a car but with much better view due to the height, steep winding mountain passes (of which there were many) did not seem to bother her unlike many of the much more cumbersome motor homes which are common. As we experienced a few very cold nights, particularly on south island, the gas heater was very efficient and welcome when freedom camping without mains power connected. On mains power the aircon/heater was also very efficient.
We would recommend travelers intersperse a certain amount of freedom camping with staying at organised sites, it was wonderful to be able to open the rear doors (something which did not feature on many of the big homes) and enjoy stunning views of scenes such as Mount Cook or beautiful lakes, waterfalls and beaches.
Kenrick's vehicles carry the motto on their paintwork "vacations in paradise" - have to agree completely!
"A van that has everything that is required for a great camping experience."
Stuart and Judy Lambert, U.K., November 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Exceptional service. A van that has everything that is required for a great camping experience. Kenrick makes sure everything is spick and span and in good working order and is very personally involved at all times.
"We have a campervan at home, but nowhere near as well equipped as the campervan from New Zealand Frontiers."
Phil and Lin Wilde, U.K., October-November 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have a campervan at home, but nowhere near as well equipped as the campervan from New Zealand Frontiers. The van was immaculate when we picked it up and served us very well during our three week trip around the North and South Islands. We would not hesitate to recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone and we look forward to returning to New Zealand sometime soon. This was indeed a holiday of a lifetime, just as Kenrick promised.
"What an incredible journey, BEST VACATION EVER!"
Les and Ruth Adams, U.S.A., September-October 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
What an incredible journey, BEST VACATION EVER! 27 days touring NZ in a Two Berth Deluxe Campervan traveling 6,107 km. over all kinds of terrain effortlessly. The experience exceeded our every expectation. Price was fully inclusive with no hidden add ons as it included all the extras that others charge extra. Info was detailed and thorough as was his orientation to the van, its features and the inclusive tour books and DVD's. The van was meticulous. Kenrick has it all - a detailed and accurate website, self-contained vans that run like clockwork that have every conceivable amenity that will make your trip spectacular and a concern for his clients that they have the best possible experience. It was evident that he wanted our experience to be the best possible. Kenrick was easily reached by phone when we had concerns about the van or whatever and he was extremely helpful in all situations. I even purchased a jacket that I needed to exchange after arriving home in the US. The company would not ship out of the country and Kenrick was kind enough to allow me to have it shipped to his address and he forwarded it to me at his expense. Storage in the campervan is at a minimum so I would ask Kenrick in the future to keep the picnic table and the wooden hangers as I found stacking the clothing in that area was the best use of the space. We did use the included folding chairs on a few occasions as it was lovely to pull off along the Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, or one of the numerous lakes or streams and cook on the gas burners when it was meal time. I would definitely use Kenrick again and recommend him to family and friends. He maintains his equipment in top notch condition and takes pride in his service. My husband could not get over how clean the engine was and everything is quite functional and well thought out in detail. Ruth and Les Adams Hummelstown, PA USA.
"As explained in the website, there have been no hidden extras."
Ruth and Alan Hyslop, U.K., September 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Our experience with New Zealand Frontiers and the company owner, Kenrick, could not have been better. The website is clear and informative and offers practical advice on all aspects of planning a campervan trip in New Zealand. Initial e-mail queries were dealt with quickly and in detail. Booking was simple, and as explained in the website, there have been no hidden extras. The hire cost covers unlimited mileage on all roads (ie: you cannot drive on the beach, but unsealed roads are covered by the insurance). The van is ideal - a comfortable living space for two, well equipped and immaculately prepared. It very quickly became home for 18 days, and was a reliable vehicle for our extensive tour of North Island. Kenrick himself is fantastic: he is extremely knowledgeable about his home country, and keen to pass on this knowledge; he gave us a trip up Mt Eden in Auckland when he picked us up, he provides a range of maps and guide books, and the van is equipped with the Kruse guided commentary on the satnav, which we found very interesting but not intrusive. Coffee at his home at the start and end of our trip made us feel like friends rather than customers, and Kenrick showed great interest in our travels, as well as checking on any suggestions we might have for improving the experience he offers. We are delighted that we followed the advice of others and used this company with its excellent personal service.
"If we are ever lucky enough to come back, this company would be our first choice for sure."
Rocío Albuixech and Marcos Gil, Spain, August - September 2014 (from independent websites Trip Advisor.com and Rankers.co.nz)
This was our first campervan experience and we were a bit uncertain about how it would turn out. We rented it for a 24-day trip and we are so glad we chose New Zealand Frontiers. Kenrick Mitchell provides an excellent service. He taught us patiently at his place how every detail of the vehicle works (which is easy, in case you are hesitating!). The campervan was extremely clean and perfectly equipped. Kenrick was at the other side of the phone and eager to answering our e-mails every time we needed something from him. He even called us when he found out that our ferry to the South Island was being delayed. He picked us up at the airport and even kept part of our luggage at our demand, which he delivered once the rental ended at the indicated hotel. You will find all kind of extras like this at no cost included in the deal. This is not a huge company interested in its profit margin. It is a small business run by a friendly, hard-working man trying to deliver the best user experience he can. On the other hand, a campervan is the best way to travel across New Zealand. So if we are ever lucky enough to come back, this company would be our first choice for sure. Can't recommend it enough.
"7,000 kms and the campervan never missed a beat."
Andrew and Lynda Main, U.K., July-August 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Personal, friendly service. No hidden costs which include satnav and many 'extras' which other firms charge for. Spent five weeks on covering islands - 7,000 kms and the campervan never missed a beat. Kenrick at the end of the phone should you need help with anything. Oh to be back there ...
"An amazing little company."
Ben and Hillary Salazar, U.S.A., May-June 2014 (from independent websites Trip Advisor.com and Rankers.co.nz)
New Zealand Frontiers is an amazing little company. My wife and I traveled to New Zealand in May of 2014 and rented a camper van from Kenrick for a month. Not only was the camper van clean, sufficiently large, and ran without problems the entire trip, but Kenrick provided clear instructions on everything, gave us support throughout our trip when we needed it (and there times we desperately needed it), and did not try to add in any hidden fees or charges as we have found other companies attempt to do. The real secret sauce to this little company is Kenrick. He has amazing customer service, is more than willing to help with anything, and just knows how to do things right. We had an amazing time in New Zealand and a lot of it was due to the great experience we had with New Zealand Frontiers. If you are on the fence about whether or not to rent from Kenrick hesitate no more! You will not regret renting from him.
Jacko Prins and Mieke Houwer, Netherlands, May 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Excellent service and very nice campervan. The campervan was very clean as well. Kenrick Mitchell delivered us the campervan at the Auckland airport and explained everything there was to know about it, and gave us tips and explained the traffic rules for driving in New Zealand. At the end of our holiday he got us back to Auckland airport without any issues. Kenrick delivers an excellent experience with great service!
"We were 100% happy with the wonderful service."
Bill and Ann Barrett, Australia, February-March 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We are home after a wonderful 5 weeks in New Zealand -March 2014. It was all that we hoped for. Thank you to New Zealand Frontiers motorhomes and Kenrick for making our trip so successful and interesting. We were 100% happy with the wonderful service you gave us right from the first email to the finish of our trip as you put us on our flight back to Aussie. I could list all the things we were so happy about, but I think Carol and Toby Seward from Canada have listed all the 10 excellent points with which we agree. I would like to comment on the great GPS in your vans. It made such a difference to our trip with all the historical facts and Maori legends. We have told so many of our friends about how good it was. Thank you again Kenrick for offering us your excellent personal service and definitely 10 out 10 from us too.
Phil and Mary Worby, U.K., February-March 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have enjoyed the use of a van with New Zealand Frontiers in 2009 and so they were the obvious choice for a second visit! We found the van reliable and up to the demanding New Zealand roads - sealed and unsealed. A small company offering an excellent personal service! We would recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone contemplating campervanning and it's a great way to see the country properly.
"Excellently maintained and spotlessly clean motorhomes!"
Carol and Toby Seward, Canada, February 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I discovered New Zealand Frontiers campervan rental on Rankers and was so glad I did! Kenrick operates a top-class business - combining professional and friendly service with excellently maintained and spotlessly clean motorhomes!
1 - Friendly and quick responses to my initial e-mail enquiries
2 - Friendly and quick responses to my questions after I'd booked and upon returning home
3 - Meeting us at the airport (even though our flight was delayed)
4 - Going over the operation and functions of the van in detail (in the comfort of his own place)
5 - The spotlessly clean and detailed van with comfortable bedding.
6 - A van the perfect size for two people (and easy to navigate New Zealand?s beautiful winding roads)
7 - The extras - a road map book, DVDs, GPS (more on that next), chairs, table, coffee press etc (included in the rental price)
8 - The GPS with the Maori cultural explanations, legends and historical facts that made the trip a richer experience for us
9 - The debrief when we returned the van
10 - Kenrick personally driving us back to the airport for the next leg of our adventure
Definitely a 10 out of 10 experience!!
Carol and Toby Seward, Canada, February 2014 (from independent website Trip Advisor.com)
We rented from New Zealand Frontiers this past February and were thoroughly impressed! Kenrick, the owner, runs a top-notch A-plus business - professional and friendly with a one-on-one service. The campervans are older models but spotlessly clean and comfortable - the perfect size for two people and NZ's winding roads! Kenrick includes lots of extra amenities with the rental price - a GPS (with historical narratives), chairs, outdoor table, umbrellas, maps, DVDs, etc. He was also kind enough to meet us off our flight and deliver us back to the airport for the next leg of our journey. Book with confidence - NZ is amazing and NZ Frontiers is a great way to see the countryside!!
"I would positively recommend this company to anyone."
James and Nicola Capel, U.K., February 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We had a camper from New Zealand Frontiers for 12 days in February. The trip was amazing and this was very much facilitated by the campervan which was perfect throughout. From the narrated GPS which gave us interesting facts and stories as we entered different areas of the North Island to the professional service received from Kenrick. The owner Kenrick was very helpful before, during and after our trip, he helped advise on the best routes and places to see as we tried to fit in as much as possible while there, he did this before we got there and then helped further when we picked the camper up. When picking the camper up he even took us to Mt Eden to show us the view and allow us to take some photos giving up some of his day to save us a return trip later in the day. We realised when we returned to the U.K. that we had left my wife's necklace in the campervan, Kenrick found it and posted it back to us at no cost, which I feel shows his commitment to customer services. I would positively recommend this company to anyone looking to hire a campervan in New Zealand, and would definitely recommend this as a way to see the country.
"All the fittings were of very high quality and the bedding and towels were absolutely top notch."
Deb and Craig Williams, Australia, February 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have just arrived home from 3+ weeks on the North Island using one of Kenrick Mitchell's super Ford Transit vans. The experience started with Kenrick collecting us from our hotel at Auckland Airport bang on time and taking us back to his base to introduce us to our van and show us all her workings. The van was absolutely spotless and beautifully presented. All the fittings were of very high quality and the bedding and towels were absolutely top notch. We then went in for a cup of tea and a very thorough and friendly explanation of the agreement and then off we went. Throughout our travels we used the complimentary sat nav which has a very informative commentary about the history and points of interest of places we were passing through. The sat nav was essential to find many of the camp sites and we wouldn't have found them without that. We also had a very good complimentary road atlas which was great for planning where we were going the next day. The van never missed a beat and was pretty economical on fuel as well. When we returned the van to Kenrick, the debrief was done over another cup of tea and in a very friendly fashion and then he delivered us back to the airport and went and found us a trolley for our luggage to boot! We had a lovely time in NZ and will tell anyone who asks to seriously think about giving one of these vans a go as the service and presentation provided by Kenrick is exceptional.
"The onboard sat nav had a really useful spoken guide that gave information, history and stories."
Steve and Sue Clark, U.K., January-February 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
What a great company! From the response to our first email to our return home to the UK, New Zealand Frontiers were a delight to deal with. A minor problem with a sat nav was dealt with immediately with a replacement delivered personally the same day. The great service extended to forgotten items being shipped to the UK free of charge. This was our first trip to New Zealand and we didn't know what to expect from a camper van. Kenrick (the owner) spent time at the start of our holiday running through everything we needed to know, making our first few hours of travelling worry free! The onboard sat nav had a really useful spoken guide that gave information, history and stories about the areas being travelled through (you can switch this off if you don't like it) After a month of driving around in our home we were sad to have to hand it back. Thank you so much Kenrick for helping make an exciting holiday very special. Sue and Steve Clark, Poynton, England.
"From beginning to end, my experience with New Zealand Frontiers was absolutely first class."
Roger McCabe, U.K., January 2014 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
From beginning to end, my experience with New Zealand Frontiers was absolutely first class. I arrived in Auckland and spent a week with friends, during which it was suggested I should hire a campervan. I contacted Kenrick and he went out of his way to arrange a vehicle for the following week. I was short of time, having only 14 days before I had to fly back to the UK, so required a one-way booking. Kenrick arranged the Cook Strait ferry and even suggested some routes to make the most of my travels. The van itself was very well equipped, clean, economical and comfortable. The experience helped made my holiday a trip of a lifetime - one which I will be sure to repeat in the future.
Miles and Bev Chisholm, U.K., January 2014
Many thanks for supplying such a fab camper that Bev and I have enjoyed over the last couple of weeks - it was great ! We have been delighted with your service and will be recommending you to everyone we know back home.
"From ease of booking through the end of the trip... it was an absolute pleasure all the way. I wouldn't consider using anyone else for campervan hire in New Zealand."
Jordan and Delphine Moore, France, November-December 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We spent a month travelling around in our New Zealand Frontiers campervan and the whole experience was wonderful. The bed is very large and comfortable, and the van comfortable to drive. At the beginning of our trip, due to our own stupidity we needed a replacement key, and Kenrick got a replacement to us in hours (for a very reasonable fee) so our trip could go on without any delays. He was always available for any questions, and the wonderful communication before the trip continued during our travels. There are no hidden charges to worry about either! We gave some feedback on how to improve a few small things, and I'm sure that the suggestions were taken into account and will improve the campervans even further. We will be recommending New Zealand Frontiers to all our friends!
"The camper was in a very new condition and was really fully equipped - just as promised."
Andreas Wolf and Ilona Bauer, Germany, November-December 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We had one of Kenrick's campers in November/December 2013. It was a unique experience; from the time of booking we felt very safe and secure with this family company. All of our questions were answered very reliably and quickly by Kenrick. When we arrived in New Zealand, he picked us up at our hotel, showed to us each and every detail of the camper. We felt very comfortable. The camper was in a very new condition and was really fully equipped - just as promised. During our tour, stones cracked two of our windows. Kenrick helped us immediately and assisted us getting them replaced within one day. It was just great. Once again - thank you for such a great time, if we were able to rate for more than 10 points, we certainly would.
"The airport pick-up and drop-off was a welcome bonus."
Patrick and Elaine Shapland, U.K., October-November 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired one of Kenrick's campers for 51 days in Oct/Nov 2013. From the first enquiry to the final drop off of the van the service we received was second to none, nothing was too much trouble, the van was perfect for our needs. The airport pick-up and drop-off was a welcome bonus. The personal service of a smaller company gives you peace of mind when touring in a foreign country.
"...exemplified the friendliness and hospitality of the New Zealand people."
Brian and April Gaither, U.S.A., October-November 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
First impressions are lasting impressions. Kenrick exemplified the friendliness and hospitality of the NZ people. From the first enquiry to dropping the campervan off when returning home, Kenrick made every step a pleasant experience. The campervan was in excellent condition and performed beautifully on our entire trip. The best thing we can say is that we would rent from Kenrick again.
"...everything went extremely well from the first contact to the return of the vehicle"
Arthur and Larraine Ware, Australia, October 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I rented a motorhome from NZ Frontiers last October for 2 weeks to travel around some of the North Island. Last time we hired a motorhome we had some problems and the company we rented it from were extremely difficult to deal with so I was a little reluctant this time and immediately went looking for reviews and somehow I stumbled onto Rankers.co.nz and was really glad as the reviews were most helpful.
1) Why did I choose NZ Frontiers? I chose NZ Frontiers purely based on the excellent ratings in Rankers. The score was 98/100 and it was (still is) the top rated rental company. When I read through the reviews I was surprised by the consistently high ratings and struggled to find any negative comments. I am please to say all the comments are reflective of the experience with NZ Frontiers -They are all really good.
2) What about the Van? First of all I want to affirm what others have said, the van was in immaculate condition, when I looked at the speedometer I couldn't believe how many kilometres it had done as everything looked so new. It was comfortable to drive and sit in everything you need is supplied. The bed making was a challenge but you soon got into a routine.
Tip: Don't let your wife (or yourself) take too many clothes. There is limited storage space.
3) What about problems? Actually we had no problems with the motorhome or NZ Frontiers. Kenrick is easy to deal with and with the zero excess insurance option everything was covered.
4) Overall Experience? As you can see from my rating of 10/10 it was a positive experience. I had nothing to complain about and everything went extremely well from the first contact to the return of the vehicle. NZ Frontiers is a small company, especially compared to some of the other operators who all seemed to be owned by the one company.
5) Would I recommend? Yes, I don't think you can go wrong as long as the van type available meets your requirements. I am sure we will be back to see the parts we missed this time.
"The van was pristine, and we had everything we needed."
Kathleen Cuney and Frederick Witt, U.S.A., September-October 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We rented a camper van from this company and drove it for the month of October 2013. The van was pristine, and we had everything we needed. Mechanically, the van worked perfectly the entire time. But the thing that set this experience apart was the incredible service we got from Kenrick, the owner, from our first contact to the day we turned the vehicle back to him. He helped us plan our trip, answered every question we had promptly, and was available throughout our travels. He got our ferry tickets for us, and changed them for us when our schedule changed. By the way, Kenrick has a great sense of humour and is a lot of fun! I recommend his company and camper van without reservation, for two people.
"...a quality vehicle with quality customer support."
Bronwyn and John Cikuts, Australia, September-October 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired our van from New Zealand Frontiers and took the van on both islands covering 5400km. It was well kitted out with everything you might need for your trip, including wine glasses, dish liquid, paper towels, toilet paper, even some plastic containers. In hindsight, we should have foregone taking the included picnic table & chairs as we did not use them and they just took up space. Probably good to have if you were planning to 'free-camp', but we only stayed in caravan parks. The van measured 5.5m in length which was a good size - could park in city car parks and shopping centres but big enough for comfort for two people. It was small enough to manoeuvre the tight windy roads and mountainsides (often with no guardrails). We had no problem with the van, except for a loose water cap that came off while we were driving (apparently we missed that it was lockable). In any case, Kenrick had a spare and did not charge us for replacement. All in all the customer service was spot on. Kenrick knows what tourist campers want/need and provides it. It was a quality vehicle with quality customer support.
"...a very comfortable bed, drove and handled like a car, was fuel efficient and never missed a beat."
David and Maree Johns, Australia, September-October 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I rented a motorhome from New Zealand Frontiers for 3 1/2 weeks to circumnavigate both islands. Kenrick Mitchell arranged shuttle bus pick-up from our accommodation in Auckland CBD to his establishment to pick up the motorhome and return shuttle to Auckland International Airport upon our return. Kenrick was extremely friendly and went over the motorhome with us meticulously to ensure that we understood the workings of the vehicle. The motorhome exceeded our expectations included everything you could possibly want whilst on the road and to be self sufficient. The vehicle was comfortable for two people, had a very comfortable bed and drove and handled very car like and was quite fuel efficient. It never missed a beat. Nothing was too much trouble for Kenrick and it proved to us that a small enterprise such as this is the way to go. You can't beat friendly, personal service. Our dealings with Kenrick right from the very start were professional and nothing was too much trouble. My wife and I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending New Zealand Frontiers for a self drive holiday in New Zealand.
"No hidden costs, no surprises.."
Joan and Tim Kelley, U.S.A., September 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Small company with impeccable vehicles, great support while travelling, including cultural/historical/geological program attached to included GPS system. Owner Kenrick Mitchell gave thorough orientation to Ford Transit vehicle and even debriefed at the end of the trip with a cup of tea. No hidden costs, no surprises, very up front and laid back, yet professional and respectful. We are not young and managed the vehicle easily and it was plenty big enough for two people. You won't be disappointed.
"Our trip was flawless. The van performed perfectly.."
Joan and Tim Kelley, U.S.A., September 2013
What can I say that isn't already mentioned here? Our trip was flawless. The van performed perfectly and was immaculate and well set up when we received it at the airport in Auckland. Kenrick was personable and comprehensive in his introduction to travelling in his van and we were never surprised with additions to costs, always felt well supported during travels, expectations were up front on both sides and the Ford Transit was the perfect size for two, on rainy spring roads. I would not have wanted a larger or less manoeuvrable vehicle. We are not youngsters and the van was very accommodating for use and maintenance on the trip. The GPS Kruse combination was very helpful, especially in learning about the areas we were approaching, the history and cultural notes and even geology and quirks about an area. A great time and even a cup of tea at the end.
"You can't go wrong booking your motorhome through this company."
Mel and Dave Catlin, Australia, August-September 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have just returned home from our second trip to New Zealand and our second rental with New Zealand Frontiers. Once again Kenrick and his company shone. Wonderful service, excellent facilities - what more could you ask for? Kenrick's knowledge and advice is second to none and our trips are always the better for it. You can't go wrong booking your motorhome through this company.
"If you want to see New Zealand this is the way to do it and the company to do it with."
Gary and Tracy Kerr, U.K., July 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I were celebrating our recent marriage by doing some travelling over the summer period. We had always wanted to see New Zealand and decided to opt for the Campervan Experience. We stumbled across a review of New Zealand Frontiers and began to book our trip away. The reviews were spot on, good things do come in small packages. With New Zealand Frontiers you get a small company, excellent customer care, attention to the smallest detail and a genuine nice guy in dealing with Kenrick. The guy seems to have got it just right, he is full of the information that you need concerning places to see, hidden gems and is always willing to give you the support you may need during your holidays. We had a great time in New Zealand and we would love to say, what a beautiful country it is. We have visited a few places now, but no other retains its own roots and individualism quite the same. If you want to see New Zealand this is the way to do it and the company to do it with. We hope to return to New Zealand and will certainly contact Kenrick for his knowledge and assistance once again. Thank you for a great holiday. Gary and Tracy.
"At campsites we had a snoop around the other rental vans and none seemed to be presented to the same high standard of ours."
Matt Ellington and Helen Cooper, U.K., June-July 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired a van from New Zealand Frontiers and drove some 5700 km in a month. In every contact with the company Kenrick totally exceeded expectations for service and hospitality. The attention to detail in the van and the service we received was beyond incredible and the van has everything you could possibly expect. The van was beautifully presented, immaculately clean and very comfortable indeed. Whenever we had questions or comments we used the freephone number and Kenrick was available 24/7 to give expert advice and help. At campsites etc we had a snoop around and look at the other rental vans, none of which seemed to be presented or maintained to the same high standard of ours. The van had been wonderfully maintained and ran very smoothly. The van was competitively priced and economical on fuel, especially given that a lot of other companies end up charging money at the end of the rental on top of the quoted price before. The best bits about New Zealand Frontiers are the freebies (Kruse guide, GPS, unlimited miles etc), the beautiful state of the vans, the phenomenal customer service and the peace of mind that everything has already been thought of and taken care of! I would recommend New Zealand Frontiers without reservation to anyone travelling to New Zealand.
Note! Matt and Helen have published a great gallery of photos from their New Zealand travels that can be viewd at; http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0Cct2bdu3Zs2EV
"The camper looked like it was brand new."
Kevin Baukens and Dorien Broothaerts, Belgium, April-May 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We rented one of Kenrick's campers for seven weeks and were very very satisfied. The way he handles his business is extremely professional. He really treats you in a personal way, not as another client in the row. Kenrick really takes his time to give you all necessary information. A high quality service for a high quality camper. The camper looked like it was brand new. It was treated with a lot of respect and so did we. No complaints at all. No unexpected surprises. Everything worked well, all necessary equipment was foreseen. We had one small issue and even that was handled in a very professional way by Kenrick. Don't doubt, just book your camper at New Zealand Frontiers. Not the cheapest option, but definitely the best one.
"...friendly, efficient, attentive, no nonsense communication.."
Anthony and Rosaline Smith, U.K., April-May 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I had always wanted to tour New Zealand, but it was daunting once we had decided that a campervan was the best option, because we had never done that before. Furthermore, which company should we go for? We did not choose New Zealand Frontiers because it was the cheapest, especially if you wanted to start in Auckland and end in Christchurch. What drew us to New Zealand Frontiers, however, was the friendly, but efficient, attentive and no nonsense communications of, and with, its proprietor, Kenrick Mitchell. These removed any concerns, real or imaginary, and convinced us that we would be in safe hands. Neither the country nor New Zealand Frontiers disappointed us during our trouble free three weeks touring. We were picked up from our Auckland hotel and given a thorough introduction to our vehicle, as well as very helpful tips about routes, sights and where to stay etc. We did 4391kms, and experienced no problems with the van. Indeed, I was pleasantly surprised at the sprightliness and acceleration of the six speed diesel engine. Both the driving position and the spacious bed are comfortable. The van was delivered to us spotlessly clean, is cleverly designed and well equipped, although we chose to use the cooking, washing, showering and toilet facilities of the camp sites, rather than those of our mobile home. It's hard to think of any grievances: the windscreen demister is inefficient; the fridge occasionally burst open on very bendy roads if it was full of heavy milk and water bottles! The ingenious GPS based Kruse commentary on NZ is very informative and interesting, although if you use it regularly, you too may be driven to distraction by hearing the same Maori myth for the 4th time! At the end of our adventure, Kenrick was just as attentive and hospitable as at the outset, and true to his advertising, we have not been hit by extra charges - at least not yet! We would love to return to NZ, and if we did, I can see no reason why we wouldn't go with New Zealand Frontiers once more.
"We particularly liked that you could go to a winery for lunch and then return to the van for a sleep before driving off!"
Helen and David Grant, U.K., March-April 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I cannot praise the service we received from Kenrick too highly. He is a consummate professional and he helped us to have a wonderful time exploring North Island. He delivered the van to us in Wellington right on time and then gave us a lift to our apartment when we dropped the van off in Auckland. The van itself was just right for our needs. We particularly liked the fact that you could go to a winery for lunch, have a wonderful meal with wine, and then return to the van for a sleep before driving off!
"We found the customer service and approachability to be faultless."
Julian and Carrie Roots, U.K., March-April 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We chose this firm following a recommendation from friends. This is the only campervan company we have used in NZ so can only rate the experience in isolation. The owner Kenrick does not simply rent you a van - he is personally involved in helping get the most out of your holiday, providing an astonishing amount of information on his website and face to face, booking tickets with discounts and making recommendations. We found his customer service and approachability to be faultless. Would whole heartedly use this company again and unreservedly recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone.
"New Zealand offers a wonderful selection of parks to stop over in as well as free camping if preferred."
Lyn and Simon Allen, South Africa, March-April 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers for our first trip around New Zealand and we are so pleased that we did. Kenrick Mitchell runs an efficient, customer-centric business and his assistance in planning and organising our trip was fantastic. It is always daunting to plan your first trip to a country so his help was greatly appreciated and we spent three weeks travelling around North and South Island in the campervan. The vehicle itself was modern, easy to drive, comfortable and well equipped and New Zealand offers a wonderful selection of parks to stop over in as well as free camping if preferred. What a wonderful experience and we have no hesitation recommending New Zealand Frontiers to everyone who is planning a campervan holiday in New Zealand. Bon voyage!
"We were picked up personally from our hotel in Auckland and given a comprehensive intro to everything we needed to know about our home on four wheels."
Holger Röhr and Elke Leberle-Brown, Germany, February-March 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
SUMMARY: Can definitely recommend newzealandfrontiers: Personal, high quality customer service; vehicles in good shape; many extras you won't get from the big rental companies.
DETAIL: We found Kenrick and Newzealandfrontiers on Rankers and after a call, some emails and the friendly and very professional manner with which all our inquiries were handled we felt confident to go ahead and book with him. We were picked up personally by Kenrick from our hotel in Auckland and given a comprehensive intro to everything we needed to know about our home on four wheels: the directions were very clear, the info material exhaustive (road maps, tourist info, navigational system and even some movies, which we could have, but didn't watch on the integrated TV/DVD), the van was super clean and equipped with everything you need on your trip (camping chairs + table, various kitchen utensils, etc....). The van, a Ford Transit, is a perfect size for two people, the bed comfortable, the fridge big enough to stock up for several days - even after 23 days we could have gone on for several more weeks without problems :-)
Handling the van was easy (dumping, filling up water, etc.), the only thing we couldn't figure out at first was the gas heater. We also hardly used up any gas even though we made coffee and cooked quite a bit. Thanks to solar panels, the fridge kept things cool at all times. The warm water was still warm enough for doing dishes, etc. the next morning.
All in all, our vacation exceeded our expectations. At every step along the way, Kenrick was super helpful and we always felt that whatever the challenge, he would be able to fix it/help out/get it done. Luckily, we never had to take advantage of road assistance, but we're sure that Kenrick would have taken care of it as quickly as he did with all our other inquiries.
"Notable is that this van came equipped with items that most other companies charge extra for per day."
Jill and Bill Fischer, U.S.A., February-March 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
After an exhaustive exploration of New Zealand campervan companies and numerous communications with Kenrick Mitchell, we decided to do a 24 day rental with New Zealand Frontiers. Though confident in our decision, the outcome of our New Zealand experience far exceeded our hopes and dreams! Kenrick's company is exactly as described and his attention to every detail and professionalism was evident throughout our experience. He has been forthright and fun to deal with and communications have always been prompt and thorough. The campervan was immaculate, perfectly equipped for two people, performed excellently and was very comfortable for travelling, driving and sleeping. Notable is that this van came equipped with items that most other companies charge extra for per day. The Kruse and Navman systems were very helpful and enjoyable, as were the other resources and maps that were included. Kenrick picked us up on a Sunday morning from our downtown Auckland hotel. He took us on a beautiful tour of the city and up Mt. Eden. We received a complete introduction to the van and driving guidance until we were reasonably comfortable with the vehicle and driving on the left. We had a fantastic 4783 km of New Zealand adventures, all the while knowing that Kenrick was available should we need assistance or have a question. This kind of personal attention is rare and to be appreciated! We would highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone wanting a first rate opportunity to see New Zealand up close and personal.
"The camper was a wonderful home for us and allowed us to explore and see so much of your lovely country."
Jill and Bill Fischer, U.S.A., February-March 2013
We have been home for two weeks now, so wanted to do a quick hello to thank you for the wonderful part you played in our fantastic vacation in New Zealand. We could not have asked for a better experience with your attention to every detail in dealing with us and with the camper. It was truly fantastic and fun to interact with you from the very start to saying goodbye on March 11th (well, that part was sad!). The camper was a wonderful home for us and allowed us to explore and see so much of your lovely country. I still miss NZ very much and all of the places I still want to see roll around in my head! I loved the entire experience and Bill did, too.
Paul McCaughey and Mike McGettrick, Australia, February-March 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
An exceptional service provided by New Zealand Frontiers. Airport transfers included. Camper vans in excellent condition and easy to drive. Would highly recommend.
"The van was clean, fully equipped, in perfect technical condition, and surprisingly economical."
Hans Zima and Eva Schlik, U.S.A., February 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We did a very thorough research on the web at home before our trip and finally decided to rent a motorhome from New Zealand Frontiers. It turned out to be an excellent decision. The van was clean, fully equipped, in perfect technical condition (we drove more than 4600 km over three weeks without any incident), and surprisingly economical. In addition the owner, Kenrick, was a competent, professional, and friendly host, who provided us with valuable advice - which we needed since this was our first trip with a campervan. If we plan another trip to New Zealand the future, Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers would be again our first choice. We wholeheartedly recommend him and his company.
"Were totally satisfied with our choice of New Zealand Frontiers for our first motorhome experience."
Nils and Helene Andersson, Sweden, January 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Just a quick note to give our praise to the way New Zealand Frontiers is taking care of business. We started our 21 days journey on New Year's day 10 am, when all other businesses are resting, we were met by Kenrick just outside our central Auckland hotel. No problem with that. We got a nice sightseeing tour of the city ending with the spectacular view from Mt Eden. Then we went to Kenrick's house in Papakura and had a nice chat about our plans for the journey over a cup of coffee. He then had really thorough briefing how to use a camper-van (us being beginners on both that and not used to left hand driving) and helped us book a camping place for the first night in Raglan. We drove 4800km, on both the North and South Islands. The van worked just fine all the way. The GPS went down on the last day but we got good maps in the van so there was no problem finding our way back to Papakura. We never had the need to call Kenrick for help but had that been the case, I`m sure he would have answered promptly as he did to some other people while we were introduced to the van on our first day. Were totally satisfied with our choice of New Zealand Frontiers for our first motorhome experience.
"Would the reality agree with the hype? Without a doubt the answer is yes!"
Al Campbell and Leanne Healey, Australia, January 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I found reviews of New Zealand Frontiers on a few websites and they all raved about the quality of service offered by this company. Would the reality agree with the hype? Without a doubt the answer is yes! Kenrick's personal approach and level of efficiency has to be experienced to be believed. From ease of booking and pre-trip information through to the meet and greet at the airport and finally the cup of tea and a chat at the end of the trip - it was an absolute pleasure all the way. Business operators like Kenrick are few and far between these days - it was great to find one that still exists. I wouldn't consider using anyone else for Campervan hire in New Zealand.
"...a memorable, comfortable and trouble free experience from start to finish. We will be back!"
Jude and Michael Butler, Australia, December 2012-January 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Our experience with Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers was top notch. From the time we expressed interest in getting quotes to the drop off at the end of our 10 day journey, the level of satisfaction did not waver. Kenrick personalised each interaction with both efficiency and humour. His responses were quick as well as informative and the well presented web site a bonus. Our transition from pick up to setting off was seamless. We were given a thorough tour of the van, finding it both spotless and well equipped with little extras like umbrellas, iconic kiwi DVDs and reading/reference guides. When on the go, the van pulled really well, was very economical and even turned heads with its graphics... ask the man in the supermarket car park at Mangere. All in all - a memorable, comfortable and trouble free experience from start to finish. We will be back!!
"..totally dependable and there was no problem whatsoever."
William and Shane Harrison, U.S.A., January 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My son and I rented a New Zealand Frontiers camper van for 11 days in New Zealand. It was totally dependable and there was no problem with it whatsoever. Kenrick, the fellow who taught us how to use the van and met with us upon its return, is an exceptional person. He emphasized that we could contact him 24 hours per day if we had a problem, but that was not necessary. My son and I fully enjoyed our conversations with him on a variety of subjects - William F. Harrison.
Andrew and Nicola Crow, U.K., December 2012-January 2013 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This is a much smaller company than some of the major camper van suppliers. Kenrick, who owns the company, is a really approachable guy and incredibly knowledgeable about his country. The thing you get with smaller companies is customer service, and Kenrick has it in abundance. My wife and I had our 22 day honeymoon touring round NZ, and did over 5,500km in the Ford Transit, and whilst we had only two extremely minor incidents with starting the van (and I mean minor), we had no problems with the vehicle. Kenrick is always on the end of a free-phone number, and is straight on the case for all of your requests. It is great that you get to deal directly with the boss of the company, and if there are any problems you get a direct response knowing that it will be dealt with, rather than getting lost in the ether of a massive company. New Zealand is a fabulous country and if your budget and requirements are in line with New Zealand Frontiers costs and vehicles then I wouldn't think twice about going with them. If your thinking about it, just drop him an email and you'll soon be convinced!
"Our friends have chosen another company for their van - and are already regretting their decision"
David and Alison Chillingworth, U.K., November 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have just come home after ten days touring the North Island in one of Kenrick's campervans. Everything went exactly according to plan and we can wholeheartedly recommend this company. When you research something on the Internet, you always wonder about the reality. We need not have worried! The campervan was immaculate and very well equipped. Kenrick picked us up at our hotel and gave us a careful briefing. It was clear that, if anything had gone wrong, he would have been immediately available to sort it out for us. We found the van easy to manage. It was compact enough to be easy to handle and simple to park in all sorts of places - but big enough for anything we needed. When we came back, Kenrick gave us a cup of tea and wanted to hear all about it - before he drove us back to the airport. A good experience!
"Great personal service and an excellent van - a campervan is definitely 'the' way to see New Zealand."
Ian and Shelly Johnson, U.K., October-November 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have just arrived back home following a month's hire of a camper van from New Zealand Frontiers. Unlike my normal practice I never checked reviews or even checked out many of the other hire companies before booking. Why? Because of the honest approach and great information on the web site. It just seemed right and although in general this may not be the correct method this time it turned up trumps. Everything was as simple and straight forward as it possibly could be. Great personal service and an excellent van. A camper van is definitely "the" way to see New Zealand. Plenty of explanation and advice on arrival got us off to a flying start. When hiring campers before I've only ever got the briefest of introductions so this was a refreshing change. The van was plenty adequate for a month?s stay and nearly 6100km (3800 miles) of travel. I have no hesitation in recommending New Zealand Frontiers.
"The vehicles that New Zealand Frontiers use are easy and economical to drive, and lack nothing in terms of road performance.."
Andy and Judy Hardy, Australia, October-November 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Seeing the natural beauty of New Zealand by motor home is the most intimate way of getting immersed in the experience, rather than the more isolating effect of an organised tour. The vehicles that New Zealand Frontiers use are easy and economical to drive, and lack nothing in terms of road performance when you need to get from point to point. The vehicles have every inclusion for comfortable living and the standard of presentation and preparedness for the task was perfect. To top off the experience was the personal service and flexibility provided by Kenrick Mitchell which came to the fore when the vehicle had a minor mechanical problem, and was fixed without delay. Any vehicle can fail at any time, despite all efforts to prevent such things, and if it happens, then this is where the resources and attention to detail of the provider can make or break the holiday. Kenrick made ours!
"The van was spotless and well maintained"
Jenny and Ary Bargeus, Australia, September-October 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My husband and I spent 32 days travelling NZ (both Islands) in a campervan. We had a wonderful time and the van was very comfortable and fuel efficient. We were met at the airport, orientated to the van and the accessories, helped with mobile phone coverage and off we went. The van was spotless and well maintained. We had everything we could possibly need including an extra blanket for those unseasonable extra cold nights in the South Island. We had folding chairs and table to use for lunch stops. Kenrick had thought of everything. I thoroughly recommend New Zealand Frontiers Camper vans and will use them again should we return. Thanks Kenrick. We had a wonderful time thanks to your attention to details
"After hours and hours of research on the web in order to find the best van (and value for money), our choice stopped on New Zealand Frontiers. We didn't regret!"
Stephanie Mrowczynski and Gael La Barre, New Caledonia, August 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
After hours and hours of research on the web in order to find the best van (and value for money), our choice stopped on NZ Frontiers. We didn't regret! Kenrick the owner is very serious and don't throw you on the road at your arrival. You can count on him if you have any tiny problem. We had a complete briefing on the van and NZ route code (we're French and drive the other side). The van is fully equipped, and even if it's smaller, you feel at home, even in winter we weren't cold thanks to the heater! We definitely would recommend this company to friends and family and if we plan another trip to NZ, we'll surely contact NZ Frontiers again, since we had excellent holidays!
"The quality of our experience was top notch.."
Mark Hiller and Marcie Navratil, U.S.A., July-August 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Yes, Believe what you read! All of the reviews that you have read about New Zealand Frontiers are true. The quality of our experience was top notch thanks to Kenrick and his incredible professionalism and genuine caring that we had a great time in his country using his vehicles. He responded very promptly and thoroughly to all of our inquiries via e-mail. Kenrick understands the traveller, (I think he's a traveller at heart!) and does everything possible to create a comfortable and fun environment with his campers for them. He's not just in it to earn a dollar off tourists, he really and truly wants people to enjoy their time in New Zealand with New Zealand Frontiers. Examples of this are the little things (creature comforts) such as no extra cost for a couple DVDs, Navman GPS, a safe, and our favourite, the Kruse Commentary. In addition, reservations, pick-up, orientation, and drop off were a breeze. We arranged for Kenrick to pick us up at our hotel near the airport, and after a thorough orientation, we dropped Kenrick off at the office and we were off. My favourite part of our New Zealand Frontiers experience was the drop off. This again is where Kenrick showed how much he truly cared about our experience when he invited us into his living room for tea and coffee and a chat about our adventurers in NZ! It is apparent that this is Kenrick's passion and it shows in the amazing experiences his clients have.
Dan White and Helen Stark, U.K., June 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My girlfriend and I had an amazing 10 day holiday on the North Island with New Zealand Frontiers. Kenrick handed over a very clean, well kept camper and we dropped it off in Wellington. Kenrick gave us great advice for our trip and I would recommend his company to anyone going on holiday in NZ. Had a fantastic time!
"We met another New Zealand Frontiers customer during our travels and their experience matched ours - a professional and reliable service."
Liam and Katherine Spence, U.K., May-June 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired a campervan through New Zealand Frontiers for our honeymoon in New Zealand. We picked it up in Auckland and dropped it off in Queenstown. Hiring a campervan is definitely the best way to see this amazing country. The owner Kenrick was a real star - provided a fantastic campervan that exceeded our expectations, provided plenty of information and guidebooks, was promptly available for any questions and even threw in a bottle of wine to help us celebrate our honeymoon. We met another New Zealand Frontiers customer during our travels and their experience matched ours - a professional and reliable service. We would recommend anyone looking to hire a campervan in NZ to use Kenrick's services.
Note: Liam and Kat maintained an impressive travel blog of their New Zealand road trip and invite all to browse.
"Our experience with this small company was very much more satisfying than that we have had with the larger companies we have used on several previous holidays in New Zealand."
David and Marlene Bevan, Australia, April-May 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We would thoroughly recommend hiring a camper van from New Zealand Frontiers. The van was well presented and very well equipped. There was also a travel book, a book of maps and camping pamphlets - rather more information than was ever included with other camper vans that we have hired over the years. It was pleasing that we could drive on whichever roads we wished. Kenrick Mitchell, the proprietor could not have been more helpful. Our experience with this small company was very much more satisfying than that we have had with the larger companies we have used on several previous holidays in New Zealand.
Mike and Carolyn Edwards, South Africa, March-April 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I hired a two sleeper from New Zealand Frontiers for 23 nights, from late March into April. I must say that we have never experienced customer service, anywhere in the world, like we did from Kenrick Mitchell. From the time we first made the enquiry in October 2011, his responses were prompt, helpful, insightful and often with a little humour in them. On arrival in Auckland he was at the airport to meet us and took his time in giving us a thorough briefing on the workings of the van and the road rules in New Zealand. Everything promised on the website was in the van, which was spotless. Despite having high mileage, the van ran faultlessly and we achieved close on 10km to the litre over the 5500km we did. Our discounted Interislander Ferry bookings done through Kenrick went without a hitch. We did experience a problem with the skylight and table locking mechanisms about two weeks into the trip, as well as the TV aerial, but it did not spoil our trip in any way. We have hired two sleeper motorhomes in Europe a number of times, from DRM, and like the extended chassis with the permanent bed, the huge amount of storage space, the permanent eating nook and swivelling front seats, as well as their sliding blinds (rather than curtains) on the windows and particularly the windscreen, which together with the swivelling front seats give an extended and practical living area at night. This style does not appear to be favoured in New Zealand and if you are used to it, you may be a little disappointed by the limited storage and living space of the two sleeper. We highly recommend New Zealand and doing it by campervan and you will not find a better and more personal service than New Zealand Frontiers.
"This was the second time we rented from New Zealand Frontiers and everything went as smoothly as our first trip."
Robert and Nancy Cox, U.S.A., March-April 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Just returned from a month long tour of the South Island in a camper van rented from New Zealand Frontiers and wanted to once again sing the praise of Kenrick Mitchell's business. This was the second time we rented from Kenrick and everything went as smoothly as before. When you rent from New Zealand Frontiers you will get the most personal service possible. If you take the time to really compare charges between rental agents you'll find that New Zealand Frontiers includes many extras in the quote that others may not. You can rent cheaper vans but they are older and more worn out and may come with problems that could ruin your trip. I think you will be very pleased with the service and how clean and maintained your camper van is when you pick it up at your selected place of delivery. We were repeat customers, enough said.
Roland Cleaver and Lenka Rybickova, U.K., April-May 2010 (received April 2012)
Kenrick Mitchell's company is genuinely second to none - all of the positive remarks and comments left by others ring so true to our own experience a couple of years back - no point to repeat them, but we do totally endorse them. We were campervan newbies when we had the good fortune to choose New Zealand Frontiers over the bigger players in the field. What a great introduction that was and what a terrific place NZ is for a campervan holiday. We've been hooked on campervanning ever since - now going on our third European outing - it's all good, but Kenrick and NZ were very tough acts to follow! If you're contemplating taking to the road, then don't think twice - you're in for a great time - and Kenrick's your man!
Jeremy Lay and Tiffany Hall, U.K., March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We hired a camper from New Zealand Frontiers in March for the second time. Both times were great. Kenrick is really well organised and the vans were spot on. Would thoroughly recommend him!
Mark and Karen Miller, U.S.A., March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My husband and I rented a camper van from New Zealand Frontiers in March 2012. We highly recommend this company. The customer service was top notch. I reserved the van in October 2011 for our trip. It was very easy to communicate with the company via e-mail before our trip. Once there Mr. Mitchell delivered our camper van to our hotel. He gave us a very thorough explanation of how to operate the van and driving laws in New Zealand. He also gave us great recommendations on where to go and how much distance we could probably cover in a day. The camper van was very comfortable and well equipped. It was also easy to drive. We had a great vacation and were able to stay in many wonderful places. We highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers. The customer service we received was outstanding. The van was great. We are planning to return to New Zealand next year and we are definitely considering renting from this company again.
"You won't be disappointed."
Ed and Karen Roberts, Canada, February-March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
The van rental was 1st rate. I hadn't driven anything larger than a car for the past 5 years, but the unit handled just like one, even on mountain roads. Everything was included-no surprises. The Kruse self guided audio tour that comes with rental was a bonus giving us ideas on what to expect when rolling into a town or region-also history and wildlife info. All in all the rental made a great experience. You won't be disappointed.
"..a very thorough explanation of the van. We were able to travel to areas that don't have a lot of accommodation for tourists."
Tiara Dillworth and Katherine Pryde, U.S.A., February-March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Absolutely loved the campervan. It handled extremely well, had lots of storage space, and the bed was very comfortable. The van came fully stocked with everything we needed, and we managed to store plenty of stuff in all of the various cabinets. We brought way too much clothing with us, so I'd recommend not over-packing. even so, we had soft luggage, so we just stored it under the benches and only accessed it when we needed it. We had never been in a campervan before, so this was a great first experience. Once you get used to dealing with dumping the waste, filling the water, etc. it makes for a great home. We were able to travel to areas that don't have a lot of accommodation for tourists and still enjoy the area. Kenrick was great to work with, did a very thorough explanation of the van and lent us a book on hiking. The Kruse GPS storytelling device was actually really interesting and useful, and we missed having it on a later part of the trip when we rented a car. We would definitely rent with NZ Frontiers again. We felt very secure working with Kenrick and had no worries if something did happen (fortunately nothing went wrong).
Darrell and Janet Stocks, U.K., February 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My first time in a campervan so I can't compare the various types but our Transit based van did the job. What I can say is that service is important or the need to feel that if required service response is appropriate. So no problems with NZ Frontiers campervans run by Kenrick with the personal touch. All the enquiry/booking bits went well with quick responses and good advice. Meet and greet good - would have no doubts about booking again.
"A well equipped camper - it had everything we could possibly need and then some extras."
Sarah and Bernard Bedard, Canada, February 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Just back from NZ after spending 3 weeks in a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers. Excellent service and well equipped camper, had everything we could possibly need and then some extras, GPS and Kruse GPS travel guide which made our travels even more fun by informing us of upcoming sites we would have otherwise missed. Highly recommend the company.
"The delivery and collection of the van from our hotels made life much easier. Thoroughly recommended!"
Bob and Elaine Rich, U.K., January-March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Kenrick, the owner, could not have been more helpful. The initial orientation was very thorough. The van was immaculate, including kitchen equipment and was very well equipped, with unexpected extras such as DVDs, maps and guides. The van performed well particularly when going up the steep passes of the South Island. We were virgin 'campervaners' but soon adjusted as everything was to hand and the necessary limited storage spaces were well planned. The delivery and collection of the van from our hotels made life much easier. Thoroughly recommended!
"Excellent, personal service with quick responses to queries and questions."
Roy and Eileen Barton, U.K., January-March 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Excellent, personal service with quick responses to queries and questions. A very comfortable and well equipped van, with a very large bed. I would highly recommend this company to anyone thinking of hiring a campervan in New Zealand.
"Everything about the van was explained thoroughly and it was great to drive."
Robert and Carol Ereminowicz, U.K., January-February 2012
We used NZ Frontiers on our trip to New Zealand and found the service from Kenrick excellent. Everything about the van was explained thoroughly and it was great to drive. It gave us no problems whatsoever. The GPS guide was an added bonus. We highly recommend NZ Frontiers and have already told friends about the campervan and the fantastic service we received from Kenrick. Covered 2200 kms and used the campsites recommended in the book. Every campsite was a pleasure to stay at and the facilities were great. We will definitely use NZ Frontiers on our return to New Zealand. 10 out of 10.
"..efficient, courteous and nothing is too much trouble."
Kathleen and Peter Mepham, U.K., January-February 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We have just returned from our 6 week trip to New Zealand. From the point of view of our rental, it ran flawlessly from start to finish. Kenrick Mitchell, the owner, is efficient, courteous and nothing is too much trouble. He runs a very clean fleet of Motorhomes and is always available should anything arise. We can highly recommend this company.
"Very clean and very comfortable."
Robert and Elizabeth Rickards, U.K., January 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Excellent motor home. Constant hot water. GPS commentary. Very clean and very comfortable. Luxurious vehicle.
Al and Bev Morrison, Canada, January-February 2012 (received prior to travel)
Just a quick note before we head out to start our journey in the morning. I would like to say thank you to you for the wonderful service you have given us to date. You may know our friends have chosen another company for their van - and are already regretting their decision somewhat when we talk to them about our experiences with you. We hear things like "our van doesn't have that".. these are little things, but they are amazed that you will meet us at our hotel (and at our convenience!) - their company will not - their drop-off arrangements are complex - ours are not.. and for this peace of mind we have for us having made the right decision and the things you are doing to make our experience a positive one, we thank you! It's this "big picture" that is priceless! We are very grateful.

We have spent again a great holiday with Newzealand Frontiers - the fourth time now!!! Excellent service - fully fitted camper - hugely useful tips: nothing to complain - quite the contrary - we can really recommend this company. Again many, many thanks.

Daryl and Mary Wynne, Australia, December 2011-January 2012 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This was a very high quality experience for my wife and I. The vehicle was spotless and well appointed when we received it, it performed very well and the special add ons of GPS navigator and touring comments for the area we were travelling through added to our enjoyment. The commercial dealings were also friendly and fair. New Zealand Frontiers have our highest recommendation.
"Our whole experience from the time of our first inquiry was nothing short of brilliant."

Just a quick review to reiterate what everyone is saying on here. My boyfriend and I have just returned to England following a fabulous 4 weeks in an NZ frontiers campervan. We travelled almost 6000k without any problem. As per previous comments we appreciated the personal service that Kenrick offered. The van was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed. The only small problem we had was the fridge stopped working but this was resolved by Kenrick and due to the slight inconvenience we were refunded for half a day. We would recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone. The only disappointment of our holiday was England's performance in the Rugby World Cup but as wonderful as Kenrick is, even he could not have done anything about that!!!

Tony and Georgina Buckley, Ireland, September-October 2011 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
This was our first visit to New Zealand and we were on our honeymoon. The fact that everything with Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers ran so smoothly added to an exceptional experience in New Zealand. Kenrick works hard to make it all work out so well from picking us up in Auckland to dropping us back where we wanted, service is second to none. The van was practically new and no issue with driving. It came with all the mod cons including a TV, which wasn't essential but a nice touch. Ask for the Kruse system, it's an excellent way to find out about the areas you travel through. If only Ireland had done as well at the World Cup!
Sharon Scanlon and Mark Nolan, Ireland , September-October 2011 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We went on a 7 week campervan trip to NZ for the rugby world cup. I went with NZ Frontiers as I had read good reviews on Trip Advisor and was so happy with their service. From the start Kenrick did all he could to help us have a great trip even inviting us for a cup of tea while he went through the formalities. He also spent time helping us with our route and giving us advice on places to see. When dropping us off to our cruise ship at the end of our trip he brought us on a quick detour to Mount Eden as we had missed it. My boyfriend left his Blackberry in the campervan and whilst most companies would post it or ask you to come and collect it Kenrick personally delivered it to us after we returned from our cruise. I'd highly recommend this small company who offer a great personal service over many of the larger ones.

A few days have passed after arriving safely here in Germany and we wanted to say thank you again for providing us with such a great service and a perfect motorhome during our time in New Zealand! I have to say that our expectations regarding our rental experience have definitely been exceeded. We really do appreciate your hospitality, helpfulness and reliability and your excellent and comprehensive information from the first e-mail on. I feel that we experienced a perfect motorhome vacation in paradise indeed. These days it is just awesome to share all the travel stories and tons of photos with family and friends. Your outstanding homepage (tone of writing, overall presentation, beautiful pictures) that immediately made me think that your company is the best choice, which turned out to be true. Be prepared for friends of us knocking on your door - it would be great to meet you again one day in New Zealand!

We have recently returned from a 3 week holiday in New Zealand of which we spent 19 nights in a New Zealand Frontiers motor home. Kenrick is very helpful and is only a phone call away for any help you need. The motor home itself has everything you need and is great value for money.

I have just returned from a 2 weeks holiday in North Island, New Zealand with my hubby. It was indeed a whole new adventure visiting New Zealand where we got ourselves a first time experience with a campervan ... 10 days of it! My hubby has not stopped expressing his good sense of choice for choosing a campervan from New Zealand Frontiers. Well, actually all the existing good reviews has certainly made sure of that! The friendly owner, Kenrick Mitchell was very punctual when he delivered the campervan right to the doorstep of our hotel in Takapuna. He was meticulous and thorough as he went through every detail that he personally felt would be important and useful for us from the terms and conditions of the rental to insurance clauses and the local road regulations. After briefing us on the handling and maintenance of the campervan, he even took us on a sightseeing drive around Takapuna, Mount Eden which was unfortunately closed that day and on to One Tree Hill. He was very accommodating that he went out of his way to send us to Sky Tower after we returned the campervan at our airport hotel. I would call his service first class and not forgetting, he makes a great tourist guide too! We even took up on his suggestion to drive along the Taihape Road and came out of there spellbound! If we decide to try a campervan adventure again in the South Island, we will not hesitate to knock on Kenrick's door.
"Any questions we had were answered fully and the information provided was excellent."
Andrew and Joanne Rutherford, Australia, August 2011 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Recently we had a short (10 days) trip in a New Zealand Frontiers Motorhome. Our whole experience from the time of our first inquiry was nothing short of brilliant. Even though we were hunting for the best price and chopping and changing our minds several times, Kenrick was extremely courteous in all communications with us. Any questions we had were answered fully and the information that he gave us was excellent. We spent our time in the Northland and utilized a lot of what Kenrick suggested. The motorhome was in pristine condition when we were met at the airport and the orientation we were given was thorough and comprehensive. The vehicle never missed a beat as we travelled the 1600kms and we loved the complimentary GPS and especially the Kruse commentaries. The Kruse (we called it Kenrick) gave wonderful background information on the localities that we were entering and, on quite a few occasions, we followed his suggestions to take a deviation or stop at a particular spot. All in all we couldn't fault the service or the vehicle and next time we are back we will definitely be using Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers.

From the moment I first contacted Kenrick via email, his response was prompt, professional and very helpful - this continued throughout the dozen or so emails with me asking about 100 questions. We chose New Zealand Frontiers purely from the reviews that we had seen on this website. We really only wanted to see the South Island on our first voyage to NZ, but flew into Auckland just so we could use Kenrick's company.
Kenrick arranged all of our ferry bookings (we changed the dates on him numerous times) for us and it was smooth sailing to say the least. Nothing was ever a problem for him. The motorhome itself was 'as new'. Kenrick really takes pride in his fleet and cares about providing top notch equipment along with superior service.
Kenrick offers a very personal service. He meets you at the airport & goes through everything very thoroughly with you. Once again, I had a million questions which he patiently answered. A lot of people had told us that there wasn't much to see on the west coast and suggested going down the middle & then back up the east coast. I asked for some pointers from Kenrick & he advised us to definitely do the west coast (if you're into awesome landscapes) but make sure you work your way along the top of the island to the west coast and then head south. This was the best advice I got for the whole trip. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking (thanks Kenrick). On our arrival back in Auckland, Kenrick took us for a mini-tour of the city before dropping us at our hotel. It's things like this that really sets him apart from the others.
I absolutely do not hesitate in recommending New Zealand Frontiers. We are planning another trip in 2 years to explore the North Island and will be calling on Kenrick's services again.

My husband & I spent May 2011 travelling the North Island in a New Zealand Frontiers Motorhome. It was a great experience and we loved the freedom of being able to stay at DOC campsites if we chose. The Motorhome had gas heating as well as Air Conditioning so it was nice being warm even when we didn't have power. The Van was reliable, comfortable, easy to drive and park. The Kruse commentary (informative & timely as any we have experienced on coach tours) and Navman which were included in the rental price were extremely helpful. Even though we didn't use it, it was good to know that our toll fees were also included if needed. Kenrick's support was excellent and we wouldn't hesitate to use NZ Frontiers next time we travel to NZ.

David and Juli Book, U.S.A., May-June 2011 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
I cannot say enough good things about New Zealand Frontiers. My wife and I have been burned by other rental agencies by hidden charges and unreasonable policies. There was NONE of that with New Zealand Frontiers. We only received a great deal and excellent service. It was refreshing to do business with such an honest person. I would recommend NZ Frontiers to anyone and everyone.

Being a retired 5 star hotel general manager, it is often a challenge to exceed my expectations, however that is what Kenrick delivered. The quality of the service is all in the detail and Kenrick has a finely honed sense of attention to detail which reflects in everything NZ Frontiers achieves. No guide book can fill in the gaps of Kenrick's knowledge and tips. Overall we were thoroughly delighted with our 12 days in NZ. Quality remains long after price is forgotten, so if you want that peace of mind book NZ Frontiers.

We checked Rankers.co.nz from the UK and found New Zealand Frontiers campervans were rated very highly. From initial contact right through to returning the van everything went very smoothly. Kenrick Mitchell is a mine of information about NZ as well as the vans and sites they use. We booked and paid online and met Kenrick at Auckland airport where a very thorough guide to the van was conducted as well as providing us with many travel tips. The van was in excellent condition, was diesel and had a gear shift which I preferred as my wife was to be navigator. We had booked a couple of sites in advance and would highly recommend all those that we stayed at although the drier in the laundry at the Lindale Park site near Wellington needs replacing! We stayed on a big site in Hahei, right alongside the beach - an amazing experience. We had no problems with the van. The on board toilet and shower were brilliant as were all the little bits of equipment that had been so thoughtfully provided and gave great flexibility with stops and stays. We were met in Wellington by Kenrick who gave a small guided tour of the views and sites of the capital before his long drive back to Auckland. We also recommend that you stop off at National Park Station if you are going to Whakapapa campsite or down State Highway 4. The cakes and other food are superb and the drive onwards to Wanganui down the long gorge is also a brilliant experience. We stopped often for views, an onboard cup of coffee and a sit in the sun beside the van on the chairs provided. We just could not recommend his company highly enough. The quality of the van just made our holiday so pleasant.

We had a great few weeks touring New Zealand in our van from Kenrick. He delivered the van to us at our hotel in Auckland and explained everything in detail so we knew how it all worked. He even suggested a change to our planned route so we didn?t miss out on some of the sights. When we returned the van, he dropped us off back to our hotel. Really excellent, individual service. On the drive back to Auckland Kenrick sorted out a problem a client had caused and made sure they had the problem fixed that afternoon so they could carry on and enjoy their holiday without any worries. A great, clean and tidy van from a really helpful supportive company.

We enjoyed a month long visit of the North Island in March. The best thing we did was to choose New Zealand Frontiers for our rental of a camper van. The personal touch that owner Kenrick Mitchell provided was far and above what was expected. We took delivery of a spotlessly clean van and were given a very thorough introduction of the workings of the van as well as a review of driving laws for New Zealand. We have rented many vehicles in foreign countries and have never had that happen before. This was our first trip to New Zealand and Kenrick was very helpful in suggesting places we might enjoy visiting. We were able to reach him by phone when the battery died and he made arrangements for us to have it checked out at a town nearby. Because there was a delay in getting a new battery Kenrick gave us a credit for our lost time. We just wanted to let anyone thinking of renting a camper van know that New Zealand Frontiers is the company to rent from. You won't be sorry. Bob and Nancy Cox USA

When researching camper van hire for our trip to NZ I thought the wonderful on- line reviews too good to be true. But they turn out to be spot on. From the outset Kenrick Mitchell provided much useful advice and tips on how to make the most of our trip. One of his vans became our home for two months, taking us all over North & South Islands, covering almost 8000 km without a hitch. It provided excellent accommodation for two 60-somethings needing a comfortable bed after a hard day walking. I'm sure there are other top of the range companies who can provide equally good vans, but none to match Kenrick's professionalism, attention to detail, personal service and a genuine desire to have all of his clients leave NZ feeling good about his company and his country. This man knows his business. If you are thinking of seeing NZ give it as much time as you can possibly afford and go with New Zealand Frontiers. I am confident you, like us, will have no regrets. I do not believe you could beat the service we received from New Zealand Frontiers. I am happy to report the campervan was brilliant and the personal attention we received from Kenrick made it even better. The van was really easy to drive and park. We shared the driving and covered 5330 kilometres. It had a very comfortable bed which I was not expecting. There was enough cupboard space for our holiday clothes, walking boots and waterproofs, and food shopping. Plus space under the bunks for a stash of New Zealand wines and beers to help top up the holiday spirit. Kenrick is the best thing since sliced bread, from meeting us at the airport to going through our holiday plans; nothing was too much trouble. Check it out yourself - I bet you won't be disappointed; I know I'm not!
Rodney and Susan Boast, South Africa, February 2011
Our decision to use New Zealand Frontiers was like a blind date! The only reason we chose them was because of their web site and the excellent responses that we got to all our bookings and enquiries. This is a prime example of a company whose C.E.O. is in touch with his audience and day to day operation and excels in his ability to deliver. We covered over 2300 kilometres in two weeks and loved every minute. The vehicle was well equipped and the GPS commentary was without doubt a major highlight. We have seldom slept as well as we did in the comfortable king size bed and vehicle handling was a dream. The rear doors were so important as we could just reverse up to the nearest view (of which there were many) and "Hey Bisto" we owned them for ourselves! Fuel consumption was very little and it was a bonus to have television and air conditioning. Definitely a ten out of ten!

My wife and I took delivery of our Ford Transit based mobile home in Auckland and toured the North and South Island of New Zealand covering over 2300 kilometres in just two weeks. Our decision to use New Zealand Frontiers was purely based on their web marketing and the amazing response that we got to all our questions and communication. Their organisation of our ferry bookings and collection details was immaculate. Thank goodness that we chose them because our experience could not have been better. The equipment was all first class and beautifully presented. The king size bed was excellent and we have not slept so well, away from home, for years. The vehicle had amazingly good road handling and power, allowing super acceleration even at low revs. This is truly a great example of a company whose owner is not only in touch with his audience but also highly professional. Definitely a 10 out of 10!

This was our first visit to New Zealand and it was made extra special by our camper van which we rented from New Zealand Frontiers. Kenrick the man behind all the hard work goes the extra mile to make sure you have an exceptional trip. If you don't it's down to yourself. Here's a list of the things that did it for me: Condition and cleanliness of the camper, good quality utensils, linen etc. Maps, GPS and general information. Confidence that if we needed help it was a phone call away and would be provided by someone who really cares (we had the camper for 29 days with not a single problem or question), a big comfortable bed. I can't recommend New Zealand Frontiers too highly. Worth every dollar.
"Worth every dollar."

We really lucked out hiring from this company. This was a fabulous holiday thanks in no small part to the quality of campervan provided and the wonderful service, help and advice which was always readily available and so freely given. When we return to New Zealand we would look no further than New Zealand Frontiers for our campervan. A first class company which we unreservedly recommend.

This really was a fantastic experience. We could not fault the NZ Frontiers campervan or the first class service we received from this company. We hired a van for 3 weeks and were impressed by the quality of the van and the company's 24/7 availability to help and advise when called upon. Cheerful, friendly and quality service from beginning to end. The company really cared and showed this throughout our stay. When we return to NZ we will not even consider another company, we will go straight to NZ Frontiers with no hesitation at all. Thanks for making this such a wonderful holiday which we are already planning to repeat. My wife and I recommend NZ Frontiers without any reservation whatsoever.
"..cannot rate both the customer service and the quality of the equipment highly enough."
Alix Gibson and Dane Amoore, Australia, December 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We found our experience with NZ Frontiers to be outstanding. The initial arrangements were made without any problems and Kenrick was more than happy to answer all the questions we had about NZ. The vehicle was excellent with everything we needed and was very comfortable to sleep and move around in. The GPS tour guide was a fantastic addition and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the history and attractions as we drove around. We did not have any problems with the van, it ran very well and had plenty of go. My partner did find that the driving position was a little cramped but he is quite tall and it was one of the few issues we had. We would recommend NZ Frontiers to everyone as the service and vehicle were extremely good.

We had a wonderful 24 day tour of North Island, enhanced greatly by being in one of Kenrick's campervans. The comfort and cleanliness of the van were first-rate as was its performance. The service and support provided by Kenrick were great and we would heartily recommend this company for anyone seeking to tour New Zealand.

We spent great 37 days exploring both islands. Our home was one of Kenrick's camper vans. There is actually not much to add to the reviews already posted. The service is beyond expectations (we even had our camper van serviced in between due to squeaking brakes.) Everything went smoothly and easily just as you would like to have it on holidays. Well, the only thing that didn't work was Kruse audio guide, but then again we only realised on the last day, so not really a big deal. Once again, thank you Kenrick for the great service and especially for bringing our forgotten stuff to the hotel in Auckland ;-) !
Peter and Jeanie Humm, U.K., November 2010
Hi Kenrick, we had a wonderful time in your beautiful country and did not want to come home. Your hospitality was spot on and customer service unquestioned, more than could be expected. The van was perfect for our needs. We tried to look after it, as we would with some-one else's property and it looked after us. We loved every minute of our holiday.. highlights were probably Milford Sound, the masses of albatross on Otago Peninsula, lakes, mountains and waterfalls. It would be unfair to pick any one thing out. Thank you very much for making it that much better and easy for us and you never know, we may get back.

Having just returned from a wonderful holiday in New Zealand, we would like to join the ranks of those singing the praises of Kenrick and New Zealand Frontiers. His customer service was second to none and for us, he went above and beyond the call of duty. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything from handover to drop-off went without a hitch. The van was clean and tidy and everything worked just as it should. We cannot recommend this company too highly and if we return to New Zealand, we would not look anywhere else.

We just wanted to thank you again for enabling our New Zealand holiday to be so enjoyable, by providing us with great service from NZ Frontiers. We were impressed with your timely emails and organisation prior to our trip, and during our travels were very pleased with the personal service that we received. We're an alto and a bass from Holland, happy to join the choir which is singing songs of praise for NZF. After dozens of these songs there's nothing really new to add here. Pickup at Auckland airport, introduction to the vehicle and 'persuading' a refusing padlock of one of our bags: Kenrick made us feel at ease from the moment we arrived. We had a wonderful 30 days on the North and South-island. The advantage of a small company became all the more apparent when we had a shattered window in one of the backdoors: impact from outside in an unsealed environment. According to Murphy's Law this happened in Mavora Lakes Park, (Lord-of-the Rings location) late Saturday afternoon, beyond any GSM-coverage. Once we reached covered surroundings we phoned Kenrick. Having arrived at a Dunedin Caravan park several hours later, we got a phone-call from Kenrick: an appointment on Sunday morning with a windshield-repair firm, 10 minutes from the camping grounds and no hassle with payment. We left the van in Christchurch airport were Kenrick awaited us, early in the morning at the drop-off in front of the departure building. Why not a 10, one may ask? It's a small penalty point for the cupboard doors against the vehicle-roof. Gas-struts keep these open once unlatched. People under 5' 8" pass without damage-risk. Taller persons (like this reviewer, 6' 2") are advised to shut immediately after taking out whatever one might need. It is not unlikely that passing Kiwi's did learn some genuine Dutch cursing now and then.... So it was very close to a 10: perfection (Rankers does not allow me to use 9,5..) Thanks to a very personal treatment by Kenrick, right from the first contact that we established, encouraged by NZF's excellent website. Don't forget to study it!
Norm and Arlene Costigan, Canada, October 2010
We rented a motorvan from New Zealand Frontiers for 10 days in Oct 2010 and really enjoyed the camping around the North Island of New Zealand. We wanted to comment that this rental company is hugely professional and Kenrick went out and beyond (even meeting us on a very early flight) in every way. He was always available to answer our questions on his cell phone and the motorvan had no problems mechanically and was clean and included everything we needed to be comfortable and secure. We want to recommend it to anyone that is looking to rent such a unit in New Zealand as with the smaller company the service was superb!! - and the cost was also less than the bigger companies so a win-win situation.
Jim and Anita Wood, U.K., September 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Nearly a ten - 96% overall. Great service, van in excellent condition and with plenty of bits for comfort. Kenrick was very friendly and helpful and prepared to sort any problems. The couple of glitches were easily coped with although a thicker duvet for the cool late winter would have made it 100%. Nothing spoiled our experience of a really hospitable population - one campsite out of 19 was the exception. No hesitation in recommending the company, the vans or Kenrick. Never do it less well! All the other reviews say all that can be said, thanks Kenrick.
"Everything was really good
quality including pots & pans, plates & cutlery and even a bodum

Mike and Sue Stinson, Canada, August-September 2010
We highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers. The personal touch which Kenrick gives sets this company apart. He personally delivered our motorhome to Christchurch, he responded immediately to our e-mail following the earthquake which occurred when we were on the South Island, and he drove us to the airport when it was time for us to leave. We were really impressed with the cleanliness and the top quality items provided with our motorhome. We had everything you could need including two kettles (one to use if you were only using propane and an electric one for when you had a power hook-up). Everything was really good quality including pots & pans, plates & cutlery and even a bodum to make coffee. During one cold, windy night on the South Island without a power hook-up, we used the propane heater throughout the night and were kept toasty warm. The GPS & Kruse commentary provided were very useful.
This was our first time using a campervan and due to Kenrick's excellent explanations and attention to detail we had no problem figuring out how to refill the water and propane and empty the other tanks. We both decided we could enjoy travelling this way for an extended period of time. Thank you Kenrick for making our short holiday in New Zealand a great beginning.
James and Emma Went, U.K., August 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Our campervan was delivered to Wellington by Kenrick himself, a day earlier than planned, due to his advice to travel early the next morning to our first destination - Napier, at no extra cost. He then proceeded with the most thorough hand-over we have ever encountered. Then off we went!! Effortless driving and campervaning for twelve days. The van itself was a powerful Transit with everything included you could possibly want at no extra cost - GPS, Kruse, heaters galore, toll payments and an amazing bed etc. Amazing! We delivered the camper back to Kenrick at Auckland after covering 1700km. He offered us tea and was genuinely interested in hearing about our travels. Unfortunately, we then had to say goodbye to our lovely camper as Kenrick drove us to the airport! An amazing experience enriched by an amazing company.

John Woods, U.K., May 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Hired a Transit Campervan from NZ Frontiers and cannot rate both the customer service and the quality of the equipment highly enough. The van was in excellent mechanical order and gave miles (- kilometres!) of trouble free travel on both sealed and unsealed roads. It was also warm and comfortable in places where the temperatures fell during the evenings - thanks to the variety of heating options. (The air conditioning was the most frequently used option.) Kenrick, the owner of the business, could not have been more helpful and accommodating - especially since hiring start and finishing dates had to be changed several times, thanks to Iceland's volcanic activities. All charges, costs etc. were completely up front and very competitive. A highly recommended set-up all round. An experience which will be repeated in the not too distant future.
Emma Roodhouse and Tobias Capwell, U.K., April 2010
We would just like to thank you so much for all the help and advice you gave us with regards the van hire. It made our holiday one of the best ever and very hard to come back to reality with work looming. England seems so small scale now after driving on some of those mountain roads around the South Island. It was good to have a day in Christchurch before departing and we really enjoyed it. We will of course post our strong recommendation that people hire from such a fab company. We really liked hiring from a smaller business and not having to blend in with the Britz or Maui's! We do hope to come back at some point although will have to save up again. Not sure if work will allow it for a while! In the meantime Toby and I wish you continued success with the business and thank you again for making it such a wonderful trip for us.

New Zealand Frontiers are an excellent choice for campervan hire if you want good quality service and advice. This was our first visit to New Zealand and also first time on a campervan holiday. So it was really important to get the right company and we were very thankful to have made the right choice in selecting New Zealand Frontiers. Before we even arrived Kenrick at NZ Frontiers was always quick in responding to emails. Then when we got to NZ he provided a thorough introduction to campervan life and advice on where to go. Our van was the perfect size for two and had everything we might need. We were very sad to say goodbye to it! But again Kenrick was more than helpful meeting us when handing over the van in a different location. It was also really good to be able to support a smaller company and meant you felt very well taken care of. Hope we can come back again soon!
Peter and Emily Bourne, U.K., March-April 2010
We would both like to thank you for taking care of us and enhancing our experiences of New Zealand prior to, during and following our rental. I am sure the quality your small operation offers far exceeds those offered by the larger companies, especially the warm welcome you gave us and taking the time to ferry us to the airport. I feel sure we will be back to New Zealand at some point in the future to visit other areas and to do the things we missed out on this time; when we do we will definitely look to rent with you again. Until then we wish you all the success with your business and getting a honeymoon yourself soon. Many thanks, Pete and Em.

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. All aspects of this company and its director Kenrick were professional and friendly from the initial communications and competitive quote, through to the cup of coffee and friendly chat when we had to sadly drop off our house on wheels. Additionally and importantly Kenrick also took the time to pick us up from our B&B in Auckland prior to rental, gave clear, helpful and thorough explanation of the spotless and unfailing camper van and its operation (which we found a number of the larger of the companies didn't bother with), and returned us to the airport at no extra cost at the end of our adventures. We hope to return and explore New Zealand further in the future and when we do we would definitely use New Zealand Frontiers.

Like a lot of the reviewers we booked with New Zealand Frontiers after doing research on other people's experience of campervans. Our experience of using New Zealand Frontiers matched the reviews. Communication before collection was great, especially as it was a while before we knew where we'd be getting the van delivered to. It was absolutely immaculate inside and out. Very easy to drive and a comfortable base for our 23 day hire. Not having used a campervan before Kenrick's assistance in showing us round the van and demystifying the various inputs and outputs gave us the confidence that we'd have no problem with the practicalities of campervan life. The Kruse commentary and GPS as standard was really good too. Would definitely hire from New Zealand Frontiers again, they provide for their excellent level of service, with a personal touch and close attention to detail - including a lift to the airport!
Paul and Margaret Roberts, U.K., February-March 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We were two couples hiring two campervans and we searched the internet and found New Zealand Frontiers. This is not the first time we have rented campervans as we hired in Australia the year before. How glad we did, this is a first-class operation - no question about it. Owner Kenrick is fully committed to ensuring that you have an absolutely wonderful experience his customer service is second to none. Kenrick was very professional in the way he answers emails immediately and courteously. Then, on the day we picked up the campervan, he took the time to explain every detail concerning the vehicle and how to operate it properly and even stored our suitcases while we were on holiday for the thirty days. The campervans we rented were in mint condition - spotless and fully operational. We had one small problem with the battery but a call to Kenrick and the problem was solved. We were sad to leave it behind when our rental period expired. Thanks for everything Kenrick. We hope to be back one day!

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful month-long trip to New Zealand. We had decided to do the trip by campervan and were confronted with an overwhelming variety of choices in van styles and companies. Based on user reviews we settled on New Zealand frontiers run by Kenrick Mitchell and were thoroughly pleased with our choice. The van is just the right size for two, especially in a country with narrow curvy roads and the added challenge (for an American) of driving on the left. The economic advantage of diesel over gas was significant and we paid nothing extra for the numerous miles we travelled and were not limited to paved roads. The van itself was very comfortable and performed flawlessly throughout the trip. Two added features provided without charge that we found invaluable included a GPS unit for navigation as well as a GPS unit that gave the European and Maori history and tradition as well as the natural history of the areas we were passing through. Kenrick helped us plan the trip with suggestions about where to go and what to see and made reservations for us on the interisland ferry. When we arrived he picked us up at the airport and took us back to the airport at our departure. Had we encountered problems during our travels I am confident he would have come to our aid. We are happy to recommend New Zealand Frontiers without reservation.
David and Frances Carpenter, U.K., February 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We chose New Zealand Frontiers for our holiday due to the excellent reviews given on Rankers and similar sites, plus the information supplied on the great New Zealand Frontiers site. Booking a holiday on the internet and being motorhome virgins, was a daunting prospect, but the reviews were spot on and everything about New Zealand Frontiers turned out to be first class. Throughout the quoting and booking stage it was obvious that New Zealand Frontiers had a professional approach and that our point of contact, Kenrick, was very efficient, enthusiastic and above all gave personal service. The attention to detail and personal service was also much in evidence in the handover of the motorhome, which was presented in fantastic condition and with a most detailed and methodical handover. As a result we commenced our motorhome holiday with a high degree of confidence in the vehicle and with a familiarity of its operation that belied our inexperience of motorhomes. We found the Ford Transit based two berth motorhome just right from both the driving and living experience, being the right size and power for the road with ample well laid out accommodation. We had a great holiday thanks to New Zealand Frontiers aided of course by the beauty of New Zealand. However, the true worth of a company is measured when the unlikely happens and unfortunately our holiday had to be cut short due to a family bereavement at home. Managing to get through to Kenrick on a week end for his assistance when most major businesses in New Zealand are closed was very comforting. New Zealand Frontiers were very supportive in all respects. We would highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers and will definitely book with Kenrick's company again when we hope to return to see the rest of New Zealand.

After much deliberation and detailed research, my wife and I decided on renting a campervan from NZ Frontiers. Everything from the initial request for information down to the reservation was handled professionally and in a very timely manner. The campervan was delivered right to the private home we were staying at (very convenient) and Kenrick gave us a very detailed tour of all the amenities and features of the van. We were impressed with both the layout and condition of the campervan. Needless to say we ventured off and were very pleased with how the van drove and how comfortable it was. Having been in the hospitality industry in Canada for many years I am aware of good value and great service, both which were demonstrated by NZ Frontiers in glowing fashion. I would recommend Kenrick and his campervan rentals to anyone interested in a top notch experience. Thanks NZ Frontiers for making our adventure so special!

My wife and I rented one of Frontiers' camper vans this past January and we're very pleased with the experience. Everything was just as we had expected and there were no surprises. The van was clean and in excellent shape and everything worked in top order. I would highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers and we will be back to rent again.
Edwin van Birgelen, Netherlands, January-February 2010 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
After doing some research into motorhomes, I came across the New Zealand Frontiers reviews. They were all positive and ranked higher than most well-known companies, so I checked out the website. It's very informative, no nonsense information. The initial contact requesting some additional info and a personalized quote went smooth as a feather. Turned out NZ Frontiers doesn't charge the apparent BS Diesel Tax, but do include unlimited miles, a Navman and a Kruse ( - like having a personal guide with you) for free. So after receiving a very competitive quote, I decided to go ahead and rent a van for 23 days in total. The company is run as a one-man operation by the owner, Kenrick. Very likable fellow who really knows what he's doing, and loves what he's doing. Upon arriving in Auckland, he will pick you up in the van from your hotel and take you back to the depot where the van and its functions are explained to you in detail. The van itself is kept in tip-top condition (Kenrick owns a total of 6 vans, he told me this way he could keep them in great shape) and is well laid out. Everything works, and is very straightforward. The van itself is a Ford Transit and was in perfect working order. I toured both islands for over 3 weeks and the van was just perfect. It didn't flinch once. Upon returning to the depot we had a nice chat about the holiday I just enjoyed and I was debriefed on the van's performance and taken back to my Auckland hotel. Kenrick knows how to run his business and customer satisfaction is a key element in it, and it shows. Very enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting beautiful New Zealand. When I go back, I'll go with NZ Frontiers, no doubt!

After much research and comparing of prices and more importantly what you got for your money, we hit upon New Zealand Frontiers. informative website, quick and detailed response and most importantly a very competitive quote. We had our van for 20 days and toured both islands with it. A highly professional service was provided by Kenrick from the initial emails, the personally delivered spotless van right to the drop off in Christchurch and calls in between. As we drove around both islands, what became apparent - apart from the stunning scenery and wildlife - was how good our van really was compared to most of the competition. One couple told us they had to request a second van from their large faceless company after the first one was brought round from the yard spewing smoke, engine spluttering it'd done so many miles. Happily Kenrick's vans are all fairly young and relatively low mileage. And because they are based on Ford Transit vans, they just keep on going! Equally because you know the owner, not just some corporate faceless company, you treat the van with more respect, driving it as your own. Above all the van was practical, had all the equipment we would ever need, drove well and provided plenty of space for both of us. The microwave and air-con in the cabin were particularly useful. We would not hesitate to use Kenrick and NZ Frontiers again. Even our native Kiwi relatives were impressed with the van, along with a number of favourable comments out on the road as well. In researching our choice, we used Rankers to find and decide on NZ Frontiers on the strength of other reports. We hope others find our thoughts useful and decide to use NZ Frontiers as well, providing they're not already booked!

We spent a long time researching our trip from the UK to Australia and New Zealand and Kenrick was a great help via email with our planning process, answering queries and booking sites for us. When we picked the van up it was spotlessly clean and Kenrick ensured that we, as novices to campervans, understood how everything worked before he set us on our way with instructions on how to find the supermarket (the van already had general cleaning materials and a toilet roll supplied) to stock up with provisions. Inside the van the bed was large and very comfortable and the shower surprisingly good. Storage, whilst not extensive, was OK - but we had a hard suitcase with us and there was no where to store it - we had to keep moving it around and it did get in the way a bit - the website does advise just to use soft bags - so if you can, leave the suitcase at home. I would have no hesitation in recommending New Zealand Frontiers and I would use them again.

Planning an extensive trip is always daunting, even more so when it takes you to the other side of the world, unless of course you've got someone like Kenrick at the other end. From the moment we first got in touch, till the moment we said our sorry goodbyes, Kenrick's kindness, advice and helpfulness contributed to making our holiday a fabulous one. The van did the rest. It was home from home. The spacious, comfortable bed, piping hot shower and great storage space made our first "on the road" experience a "no worries" one! What's more, it never let us down and was a joy to drive as it is compact and easy to park as well as being cost-efficient and coming with an informative Kruse and route-finder. We had a marvellous holiday and this was largely due to the care, efficiency and constant attention shown to us by this small company. We will recommend it to all our friends and hope to enjoy another holiday in NZ with New Zealand Frontiers sometime in the future. Thank you Kenrick.
Tony and Kathy Cosic, Australia, December 2009-January 2010
We like to comment on the service my wife and I have receive from Kenrick Mitchell and his team when we book Campervan for about 3 weeks around last Christmas. Not only the price was best we can get for the camper we have booked after cheeking every other campervan company in New Zealand but the service that has been provided was second to none... Kenrick was real professional when it comes to that... just show that one can get best possible price and quality without compromising on service. The van was in top condition (unlike some we have seen broken down half way driving thru New Zealand)... clean... had everything that one need inside and more! Our next trip to New Zealand will be again with New Zealand Frontiers without even thinking to giving a go to any other campervan hire company!

Amazing service. Fantastic campervan (very comfortable bed). And as for Mr.Kruse - he was just fabulous. Highly recommended, and comes at a very very competitive price. Cannot rate highly enough! Kenrick even posted back a pair of earrings that I had not noticed I lost! Great company.
"The only complaint I would make is that I had to give the campervan back and come home!!! This was by far the best holiday I have ever had.."
Ian Shaw and Stacey Rose, U.K., November-December 2009 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
New Zealand Frontiers offers in my opinion the best overall service. From the moment you enquire about the company Kenrick is on the ball to give friendly and comprehensive advice. The campervans are modern, exceptionally well kept, contain everything you could possibly need and it is all included in the fantastic price that Kenrick will give you (no hidden charges for tables and chairs, Kruse and sat nav systems). You get a very personal service from New Zealand Frontiers from the first enquiry right through to when we got back home, the big companies just cannot compete with this level of service. The only complaint I would make is that I had to give the campervan back and come home!!! This was by far the best holiday I have ever had and New Zealand Frontiers played a major part of making it that good.

Carlos Grana and Belen Rabanal, Spain, November-December 2009 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We found Frontiers webpage after extensive searching the WWW. Frontiers page was clearly the best, very informative and well laid. The rental conditions were very good: fair cancellation fees, good rates, comprehensive insurance, with no fine print. While planning our trip we contacted a number of companies. The response from Frontiers was without doubt the more complete, professional and friendly of all. We emailed Kenrick (Frontiers' owner) a number of times, and always got a quick, friendly and informative answer. So we chose Frontiers for our 23 days trip, and as soon as we met Kenrick in Auckland we felt that we had made the right choice. He gave us a full explanation of the van, advice on the driving rules and a nice cup of coffee. We had previously rented motorhomes in several countries and this was the best pick-up experience of them all. The van offered by Frontiers is the right one for a couple, in terms of size and layout. The van we got was not a brand new one, but it was spotlessly clean, very well maintained and in excellent condition. Very comfortable, easy to drive and park, and the fuel consumption was amazingly low. It was equipped with all we needed (and more), including maps, guides, GPS and the very interesting KRUSE audio guide. It is evident that a competent and caring person has paid attention to every single detail. We think no other company, big or small, can beat Frontiers - excellent personal service. Kenrick is extremely professional, and at the same time very friendly, making you feel that he is really interested in helping you to get the most from your trip. We had no incident during our holiday, but we were confident that, if something had gone wrong, Kenrick would have been there to help us. We heartily recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone planning a campervan trip to New Zealand.

Honestly, reviewers here are NOT paid to give NZ Frontiers 10/10 ratings! This little company really is this good. NZ Frontiers is a comparatively small outfit, with just a few handfuls of vans. The benefit for us the customers is that the service is extremely personal and attentive. We hired a 2-berth van for 2 weeks at the end of November 09 and it became clear it was well looked after and in excellent condition. On arrival Kenrick picked us up at the airport and patiently introduced us to all features of the camper. The van had just been serviced but for some reason was leaking a little oil, so it had to be fixed over the next 2 hours. This did not delay us however as Kenrick dropped us to a supermarket to get supplies, and went through all the paperwork with us in the meantime. Once we had the van there were no problems whatsoever. This van came fully equipped, and we were surprised how easy it was to drive. The attention to detail was evident, nothing is left to chance here - you are practically ensured you're going to have a great and hassle-free holiday experience. Everything was working perfectly and water tank, diesel tank and gas bottle were filled. After a too short 14 days we dropped the van off in Queenstown, full of fabulous memories. Highly recommended; we think you get excellent service and peace of mind with NZ Frontiers.

The whole experience with New Zealand Frontiers was fantastic. Great communication, the van was in very good condition, and you could tell that a lot of thought had gone into everything and that Kenrick has put great pride and experience together to make everything work smoothly. Our friends rented from a different company and there was a HUGE difference in the vans and the customer service. Even though their van was bigger, ours was much more comfortable and a lovely place to be. I would definitely recommend the service to anyone and will use it again when we next visit.

We just returned from an amazing trip to New Zealand. Renting the camper van is the way to go! What a wonderful way to see the beautiful country!!! The camper van was clean and comfortable and cosy! All the amenities we needed. Kenrick was very helpful and super kind. If we travel there again we will surely use NZ Frontiers. He even supplied us with handy maps, GPS and a ride to the airport! We are highly recommending them to our friends and family members that would like to visit NZ too. Thank you so much!!!

Wow! What a great NZ experience. My first trip in a camper van... we had an amazing time and LOVED the camper. What a great way to see the beautiful country. We travelled for almost 2 weeks in the camper van and had a lot of fun! It was very comfortable and more spacious than we thought. Kenrick was so great, taking time to show us everything and it was spotless clean with helpful maps and navigation. HIGHLY recommended. We will surely use NZ Frontiers again if we go back and are advising our friends and family members to contact Kenrick when they are ready to go. HAVE FUN!
Jerry and Ruth Luckett, U.K., November 2009
Ruth and I thoroughly enjoyed our travels in NZ and especially the motorhome experience which as you know was our first such experience. The motorhome was very good - clean, everything worked, comfortable, easy to drive and the personal service from you was outstanding - far exceeding expectations. The time you invested in picking us up and thoroughly explaining everything was a real bonus and sets you apart from what the bigger outfits offer. Thanks also for offer of a future discount - we will be back to NZ at some point in the future and will be in contact.

Excellent. Our first holiday in a campervan was enhanced by the service we received from NZ Frontiers. From the time we first contacted Kenrick, quickly receiving informative answers, to dropping off the campervan in Christchurch, we were very pleased with the van. Kenrick met us with the van, changing the time to fit in with our arrangements and carefully introduced us to all the features of the campervan. The van was very fully equipped and drove easily, we were able to take the van on back roads, useful when birding! Fuel consumption was good and a satnav and Kruise were provided, as well as maps and guide books. Kenrick was very helpful, providing an excellent personal service. We would certainly use NZ Frontiers again and I've already recommended them to a number of people who are interested in NZ.

NZ Frontiers provided us with an excellent van for our month-long holiday. It was well furnished and easily coped with the often demanding NZ roads. Kenrick, who runs it, has produced a great informative web site and readily answered all our queries prior to our holiday. No worries!

When we were looking for booking on line a campervan, we had fast, precise and personalised answers from New Zealand Frontiers. We had understood that it was a small company which wanted the success of its client's holidays. It is why we choose NZF, and also for the all inclusive package and the very interesting cancellation fees. The campervan was very clean fully equipped until small details (wine glasses ...) so as described. Its engine of 125 hp was very useful on mountains roads and with a small fuel consumption. On arrival, we had a friendly and professional welcome from Kenrick, with a large visit of Auckland. We spent 2 excellent weeks (Oct/Nov 09) in the North and South Islands. At the drop-off in Christchurch, Kenrick drove us in the most interesting parts of this agreeable town. Thank you Kenrick for everything.
Jim and Tonya Norton, Canada, October 2009 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Wow, what else can I say about our experience with NZ Frontiers? From the moment we booked online, we realized we had made the right choice. The communication and information provided by Kenrick was top notch. We travelled with NZ Frontiers for 2 weeks in October, and it went very smoothly. From the pick-up in Auckland to the drop-off in Christchurch, it was as smooth as could be. Kenrick was great in showing all the aspects and features of the vehicle, and making sure it was absolutely clean when he picked us up. We were provided with everything we needed to enjoy the trip, including a great GPS based guide that talks to you as you travel through many parts of the 2 islands...we never listened to the radio or CD's as the guide provided much entertainment. The transit-van based camper was easy to drive, and never difficult to park and manoeuvre. When you'd see others trying to park their monster campers in parking lots or camper parks I was really happy we chose NZ Frontiers. When we come back...we'll be using them again, and I've already recommended them to a few people who have expressed interest in NZ. Thanks for everything Kenrick...it was a great experience.

"..provided us with everything we needed to enjoy the trip, including a great GPS based guide that talks to you as you travel through many parts of the two islands...we never listened to the radio or CD's as the guide provided much entertainment."
Josh and Amanda Josvanger, U.S.A, October 2009
We definitely would give New Zealand Frontiers a 5 star rating. We drove 4500 km in just 15 days travelling both islands and had the best vacation of our lives. The Kruse commentary was a wonderful touch which we thoroughly enjoyed. We listened to it the whole trip and learned a lot about the country that we wouldn't have learned otherwise. We even made some stops to hike to waterfalls, etc. that were suggested by the Kruse commentary that we wouldn't have normally done. The van drove great on the narrow windy roads of New Zealand and was very comfortable. We hope to return to New Zealand again and will use NZ Frontiers again. Thank you Kenrick for helping make our vacation a truly wonderful experience and we hope our paths cross again.

We had a great time in our campervan trip to Northland. Kenrick's welcome at the airport and helpful advice got us off to a good start and although we were novices at this type of camping we adapted very quickly and appreciated the van's facilities , particularly the loo on cold nights! The layout was fine and the seats and bed especially good for two old crocks with bad backs. We made it right up to Cape Reinga and enjoyed all the sites we stayed on varying from DOC in the Far North to an island reserve for kiwis near Kerikeri where we were the only guests (alas no sight of any Kiwis but masses of other bird life. We would be very happy to recommend NZ Frontiers to any other couple as a small owner-operated firm which offers a very personal and friendly service.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday with New Zealand Frontiers! It was the second time after 2007 (5 weeks in the Camper) we choose NZ Frontiers because this little company got a great service to offer with a personal touch. Kenrick does whatever he can to make us happy, including explaining us Germans all the features from the vehicle. Also the Camper got everything we need for the last 3 weeks. I've already recommended this company to several friends in Germany. Thank you Kenrick! We'll come back soon!
Sue and David Dobbs, Australia, August 2009 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
From the first e-mail we sent, Kenrick was very helpful. When he delivered the van (on time) he was very informative and explained the functions of the van fully. This was my first time to NZ (hubby is a Kiwi) and we covered the whole north island in 3 weeks (3,700 km) and the van held up perfectly. The fuel consumption was fantastic. On returning the van Kenrick had a cup of coffee waiting and listened to our travel stories. Thank you Kenrick for helping to make my 1st overseas holiday 1 to remember, and thank you for asking how my flying went (1st time flyer as well). If I ever get back to NZ we will be using your company again.
Lewis Patterson, N.Z, August 2009
Getting a camper was a last minute decision and it was a fluke that we ended up getting one off Kenrick - the car broke down close to his office! In the end this was a stroke of luck as Kenrick provided excellent service from start to finish and I would thoroughly recommend NZ Frontiers to anyone else looking to hire a camper. Great work Kenrick and I wish you all the best with your business which I am sure will be very successful if you continue to provide this level of service.
John and Shannon Robinson, Australia, August 2009
My daughter Shannon and I have just returned from a camper holiday in a New Zealand Frontiers Campervan. I am amazed at how professional, friendly and helpful Kenrick was. From the first point of contact via email, to the last cheery wave as he dropped us at the airport, we had an experience to cherish. You simply could not ask for better service. I'm already recommending NZ Frontiers to my friends in Oz. Well done and thank you so much.

Kenrick at NZ Frontiers is amazing. Everything as described, and much much more. We had a fantastic 11 days touring. The camper has absolutely everything inside, right down to fluffy doonas and soft pillows. Kenrick takes the time at delivery to carefully explain all the features. The van was spotless on pickup and performed perfectly. I've already recommended this company to several friends in Oz. Highly recommended AAAPlus experience! Thanks.

We have just returned from our three week honeymoon to New Zealand, which we spent travelling all over North and South Islands in our fantastic New Zealand Frontiers motorhome. We were absolutely thrilled with both the van and the service from Kenrick (the owner of NZ Frontiers) - from the first email to our last chat over a cup of tea just before being dropped at the airport we were really treated like valued customers. Kenrick met us at the airport with the (very clean) van and gave us a full explanation of how it worked, including all the dos and don'ts. Whilst we were confident that he would have been at the end of the phone had we needed to contact him, the van was reliable and we had no need. Despite being winter, we were toasty warm throughout due to the range of heating options we had in the van, and the bed really is incredibly comfortable. Everything you need is included in the van, all neatly stashed away so that there was plenty of room left for all our belongings. Although not a large company, New Zealand Frontiers offers a personal and friendly service that you just wouldn't get from one of the big commercial firms. We would thoroughly recommend this company to anyone thinking about travelling New Zealand in a motor home - you wont be disappointed!

Thank you for the service you gave us on our recent tour of Northland, from personally meeting us at the airport, in-depth briefing on the features of the van, to dropping us off at friends after we returned the van. It was personal service supreme. We will book with you again when the time comes for us to see more of the North Island. Thanks for great personal service and excellent value for money.

I spent ten days with a New Zealand Frontiers camper van travelling around the north island of New Zealand and had a fantastic experience with this small and conscientious company. The van was extremely well maintained and ran like a dream. If you are looking to hire a motor home then I suggest you forget about any of the larger companies and look to the smaller suppliers who are able to offer a personal touch.

We had an amazing holiday in New Zealand but it wouldn't have been the same trip without New Zealand Frontiers. The customer service is impeccable! If we had any problems or questions, all we had to do was contact New Zealand Frontiers and they took care of us! I am so glad I did the research of all of the different companies that New Zealand has to offer for campervans because it definitely paid off! There is no other company I would use.. when we come back, we will definitely call New Zealand Frontiers again! Thanks for everything Kenrick!!

We had an amazing experience in New Zealand because of New Zealand Frontiers. They are an amazing company who really pay attention to detail. Everything we could possibly need, they provided it. The van was great, we never had any problems. The customer service was a step above the rest! They were available to answer any of our questions at any time. We will definitely use New Zealand Frontiers again and will gladly recommend to all of our friends.

This company in New Zealand is definitely a rare gem. Their attention to customer needs and personal details customized for your trip make them a step above the rest. We were thoroughly pleased with our experience with this company. I would suggest using this company if you decide to travel around New Zealand via campervan. We had an amazing holiday but it wouldn't have been such ease without New Zealand Frontiers and their personal customer service!

My wife and I rented a New Zealand Frontiers camper van for 13 days, as part of a 1 month holiday downunder. We were looking for a comfortable camper van which would take us from Auckland City to Christchurch -visiting as much as we wanted in between! Our specification was just for the two of us, in a camper van that provided something more than just a place to sleep. We wanted to cook, wash, store food and drive comfortably between places. What was of most importance was value in the product. Kenrick is the owner of New Zealand Frontiers campers, and is based in Auckland. You couldn't get a better service. Not only were we collected from the airport, we were given a full tour of the van, advice on the highway code in NZ and even a cup of tea! We were offered excellent advice! He allowed us to stay flexible with dates, until the last minute, organising our ferry crossing onto the southern island. Kenrick was always at the other end of the phone, should we have had any questions or problems. He went beyond what was expected of him and he has an attention to detail and cleanliness that you probably won't get to see in other, larger companies. Sure, you could ask for the cheapest vans out there but you will really get what you pay for. There are some that are an eye sore to the road and the countryside - that's why they have to defend themselves from their critics on their websites! New Zealand Frontiers' campers are well placed to provide space for a couple. Strong, clean and reliable vans. You'll also be the fastest camper on the roads (if you wanted to!). We also valued the Navman for tourists visiting for the first time and the Kruse commentary that is included....brilliant! We travelled a total of 2800km, visited some fantastic places and stayed at several lovely sites (many recommended by Kenrick). It was a holiday we'll never forget. Thank you New Zealand Frontiers!

It was a truly enjoyable experience renting our campervan from New Zealand Frontiers. Reading the fine print is important when renting a campervan. Some places take exorbitant deposits, charge insane fees, restrict what highways you can drive on, no unsealed roads, charge mileage fees disguised as taxes, pick up/drop off fees, etc. None of this nonsense with New Zealand Frontiers. Calls and questions were answered promptly and rates were clear and obvious. Kenrick Mitchell met our 5am arrival flight, showed us the van and was a real pleasure to work with. The van was in good shape and performed great for our 2 week 3000km trip around the north island. The complimentary Kruse audio commentary was a real joy. It pointed out details and sights we would have missed and really helped make the driving portion of the trip much more enjoyable. The huge bed was fantastic. The self contained services allowed us to camp at sites with no services for 2 days and see more of New Zealand instead of different holiday parks every night. New Zealand Frontiers was a first class operation and a real pleasure to work with.

We cannot provide accolades which do justice to the high standard provided by Kenrick and his company New Zealand Frontiers. The well equipped van was delivered in an immaculate condition, on time, and any doubts we had concerning its use for first timers like us were quickly dispelled by Kenrick. There are a lot of very lonely roads out there and it was very reassuring to know that for a month, a competent person was at the end of a phone on a 24/7 basis to get us moving again if there HAD been a problem. New Zealand Frontiers deserve a 100% rating. David & Jean.

Had a great time for two weeks driving the North and South Islands. Kenrick was very efficient with all the preliminary details such as ferry tickets, travel tips etc. Everything was as he said it would be and we really appreciated the personal touch he added to our experience. The Kruse commentary system is a must for anyone interested in the background and history of the area. Vehicle got wonderful mileage which allowed us to spend money on other things. Terrific experience, you won't be disappointed with New Zealand Frontiers. Anchorage, AK USA.

We rented from newzealandfrontiers.com. We had an excellent experience and highly recommend them. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, fuel efficient (diesel), GPS with tourist POI's (an absolute MUST HAVE!). The owner even risked missing his flight back to Auckland to give us training on everything - including a short intro to traffic rules and common courtesy with campervans.
Note! Alan and Margie have published a superb collection of images from their New Zealand travels that can be viewed at http://www.amharney.com/our%20travels/New%20Zealand/index.html

After 3 weeks and 5,400 km we could not be happier with our NZ Frontiers campervan experience. From the very first email enquiry to the final delivery to the airport, Kenrick Mitchell demonstrated a level of professional service that was outstanding. We would unreservedly recommend NZ Frontiers.
Adrian and Jackie Martin, Canada, March-April 2009 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
Kenrick Mitchell demonstrates a professional manner that every service industry company owner should attempt to achieve. His prompt response to all our enquiries, his on time delivery of our vehicle and his provision of the "extra touches" - detailed road maps, NZ tourist information books, Kruse commentary system - all added to our enjoyment of a 3 week, 5,400 km holiday around New Zealand. We would unreservedly recommend New Zealand Frontiers and frankly can't understand why its overall ranking isn't 100%.

We thought that this small company was excellent. From the time we made email contact, Kenrick made great efforts to smooth our arrival. The van was delivered exactly on time and in top condition. A lengthy explanation period followed, and to our delight there was a birthday gift in the fridge. We had a problem with the fridge after some rough roads, but a phone call to the man quickly set it right. Kenrick later compensated us for our worries without being asked. At the end, he then delivered us to our hotel. We have used several companies in the past and would rate this as our best experience and recommend Frontiers without reservation.

If you want to see New Zealand then with a motorhome is the way to do it and you can not go wrong with New Zealand Frontiers. Kenrick was professional and punctual, he explained everything we needed to know about our vehicle and he gave us great advice on places to go and routes to take. The campervan was spotlessly clean and equipped with everything we needed including excellent maps and NZ information books. Sat Nav was really helpful directing us straight to campsites and audio Kruse was excellent giving us great information, history and not bad music. Excellent!
Brian and Kim Etheridge, U.K, February 2009
This was our first experience of using a camper van and we were a bit apprehensive. Thank goodness we chose NZ Frontiers. Kenrick gave us meticulous training on how to use the van safely and reliably. A genuine effort to make sure we made the most of our time touring. We had a great time in North Island. Next time we'll do South Island and we'll be happy to use NZ Frontiers again. Thoroughly recommended.

We were camper van newbies and felt we needed help. We were really satisfied with the personal service provided by Kenrick Mitchell. He made us feel confident with the van and guided us in the planning of our tour. We had a fantastic time and would not hesitate to recommend his services.

This was our first experience motorhoming but our experience with NZ Frontiers has turned us into converts. The mechanical performance of the van, as well as the quality and cleanliness of the interior could not be faulted. Kenrick's personal service is excellent. This was demonstrated both in the initial meet and familiarisation with the van at the airport, and prompt resolution of a couple of issues we experienced with the van during our stay. In summary, we had a great experience and NZ Frontiers will certainly be on our list when we return to see the rest of the North Island.

My wife and I have recently returned to the UK after the most fantastic holiday in New Zealand. We selected New Zealand Frontiers for our campervan after an Internet search. Our initial enquiry received a prompt and comprehensive response from Kenrick and our subsequent queries were handled in a thoroughly professional, friendly and courteous manner. On arrival in NZ we were met as promised, given an impromptu but very welcome tour of Auckland and thoroughly briefed about the vehicle and driving in NZ. The campervan was immaculately presented and was equipped with satellite navigation and Kruse audio guide so we not only knew where we were but learned much about the countryside and its history and culture as we travelled. As this was our first time in NZ we did not really know how long we would want to spend in North or South Island. This was no problem for Kenrick who arranged our ferry bookings in response to a phone call. The campervan proved to be easy to drive, economical on fuel and comfortable to live in with all mod cons. The layout was ideal with internal access from cab to living area being particularly useful. We had a great time exploring NZ and on several occasions travelled over unsealed roads - taking advantage of the enhanced insurance cover which New Zealand Frontiers provide. We are determined to return again to NZ but one thing we will not have to worry about is our choice of campervan provider - only New Zealand Frontiers will do.

Thanks again for the camper van we rented from you in January & February this year. We were delighted with the van, which was clean and well presented just as you described it, and we could not have had a more personal, supportive and friendly service. We hope to book with you again one day and we would recommend your company to friends without hesitation.

We booked with Frontiers mainly because we had such prompt and friendly replies from Kenrick, Managing Director of the company. We were not disappointed and continued to be impressed by the attention to detail and personal service received throughout our holiday. The van was clean and well equipped, exactly as described, and with plenty of storage space, which is important in a vehicle of this size. Also I am six feet tall and could (just) stand up straight inside, and I had plenty of room to stretch out in bed. It is also worth noting that Kenrick's vans are economical and can be driven on unsealed roads, unlike some other camper vans for rent in New Zealand.

All information we requested (prior to booking) was comprehensively supplied, helpful and prompt! Associated info regarding the journey and the van (local traffic conditions, etc) was also very useful. The timing for taking delivery of the campervan (hotel) was really Swiss-like-perfect, the vehicle familiarisation very detailed. The equipment supplied was excellent, with little else we could have asked for. The Navman unit was also a perfect companion. At the return of the van we appreciated very much the personal and friendly discussion about the holidays and then the drive back to the airport! A real personal service! Thank you so much!

This was our first trip to NZ, and while friends had recommended one of the big boys for campervan rental, we decided to set about seeking quotes from various companies. Kenrick was the first to respond, and we were impressed by his personal, friendly and professional mail, so we took it from there. We were not at all disappointed as all went to plan. The van was exceptionally well equipped and contained everything we needed (and more) to make it a special holiday. Great size, easy to drive, park and pitch, so the 3400kms we drove was an absolute pleasure. The SatNav proved invaluable and the Kruse Audio Guide was absolutely amazing as we discovered so much about this beautiful country, we stopped at sights we would ordinarily have missed. We would love to return and would use New Zealand Frontiers again, and would definitely recommend to all. Thank you Kenrick for helping make our honeymoon so special!

Thank you for your follow up message. We had an absolutely wonderful time exploring NZ in that campervan. I am happy to report that we found the bed to be extremely comfortable, even for someone who stands 6'4" tall! We also appreciated the overall cleanliness and tidiness of the van - you've organized all the items inside the van extremely well and that makes a big difference. Cheers to you!

New Zealand Frontiers is a first-class operation - no question about it. Owner Kenrick Mitchell is fully committed to ensuring that you have an absolutely wonderful experience. Kenrick is very professional in the way he answers emails immediately and courteously. Then, on the day we picked up the campervan, he took the time to explain every detail concerning the vehicle and how to operate it properly. The campervan we rented was in mint condition - spotless and fully functional. We were sad to leave it behind when our rental period expired. Thanks for everything Kenrick.

What a great company to deal with! We were initially impressed with the website and all follow up questions we had were answered promptly and in detail. The hire rate was very competitive and there were not as many limitations as other companies. Before the date of hire we were kept up to date with reminders and info. We were picked up as scheduled with a very clean and well equipped campervan as advertised. After a complete overview of how everything worked on our campervan, we were on our way to a great 7 week holiday. We kept in contact with Kenrick via email during our travels and he responded with very helpful info on sites to see and things to do. We did have battery problems, but were on our way with a new battery within a couple of hours. After almost 8,000 km, we returned the campervan and did not have any surprise extra charges (in fact, we were even reimbursed for a couple of small campervan items we purchased). We would highly recommend this company.

NZ Frontiers was a pleasure to deal with, and the campervan they provided was great. Very clean and efficiently laid out, with everything we needed for our 6 week trip around NZ. Incredibly, the campervan bed was more comfortable than our Auckland 5-star hotel! The campervan size was perfect for two people and the vehicle handled very well. We particularly appreciated the large refrigerator, vacuum and outdoor table & chairs provided as part of the rental. Kenrick Mitchell was very helpful and accommodating when we had to make an emergency trip home during our holiday. This was very much appreciated. We are looking forward to our next visit to NZ and will certainly rent another NZ Frontiers campervan, as well as recommend then to all our friends and family.

I ran and drove all over New Zealand for nearly two months and upon returning my camper van to New Zealand Frontiers, owner Kenrick Mitchell even greeted me with mail I'd had delivered to his residence since I had no New Zealand postal delivery address. I doubt another company would do such a thing. My camper van had all the amenities I required, was clean, and was in excellent working order. Kenrick also provided me with travel tips both before and during my trip. New Zealand Frontiers will provide you with service that other companies cannot.
Peter and Sarah Cranness, U.K., October-November 2008
We were very pleased with the personal service received from New Zealand Frontiers. Nothing was too much trouble. Our van was well equipped, comfortable and easy to drive. The fortnight we had was far too short to see all the North Island and when we return we'll have no hesitation in contacting them again.

As a newly labelled experienced "Frontiersmen" with 9,100 km in two months, piloting a super clean, fully equipped fuel efficient Ford diesel campervan, we were thrilled to have connected with Kenrick Mitchell's New Zealand Frontiers website. We wanted the simplicity of an all-inclusive package, adjusted monthly rental rates, insurance package, North and South Island ferry bookings, van delivery at friend's home and drop off at airport. The van was delivered on time, as much time and questions on operation as needed, extra pillows and blankets, 24/7 phone number, and a good array of maps, books and suggested highlights of New Zealand. What a great experience for my wife and me!! We made a dent in our bucket list from skydiving, hot air ballooning, swimming with the dolphins, black water caving, glacier helicopter ride, train excursions, French Pass, mail boat deliveries, punting on the Avon, Tom Jones concert, back road excursions (good durable van), Milford Sound, Mt. Cook and trekking in Abel Tasman Park. The whole experience was seamless, relaxing and exciting. It was always comforting to know that there was a professional at the other end of the phone line if needed. We plan to visit New Zealand again and would highly recommend New Zealand Frontiers Campervans as the best way to experience the Islands. Kenrick, you met and exceeded our expectations. Thank you for making our New Zealand travels an experience of a lifetime.

Our trip was fantastic. We love to travel and I am sure that this was one of the best trips we have ever done! We loved New Zealand - very clean and safe, friendly people, nice views, low population and not too hot. We had unforgettable experiences such as the hot air ballooning, rafting, kayaking, paragliding, hang-gliding, etc... And we cannot forget to mention the great kiwi wines! It was difficult to drop off the van... I didn't want to give it back to you. Hot shower, comfortable bed, heating, air conditioning, cookers, cupboards, etc... all that we needed was there inside the moving house. We hope to come back one day!

We certainly enjoyed New Zealand and look forward to our return trip someday. When we do come back you can be sure that we'll rent another RV from New Zealand Frontiers. Not only because a camper van is one of the best (and most affordable) ways to see New Zealand, but also because of the quality of service you provided. Before we even left the US we knew we would be pleased with our decision to rent from your company, and we definitely were. Thank you for arranging our ferry crossings, transportation to the airport and (of course) for providing us with an immaculately maintained and reliable vehicle. I assure you, I won't hesitate to recommend New Zealand Frontiers to any of my friends or family traveling to New Zealand.

My wife and I spent two weeks touring both islands in one of these clean and well-maintained campervans. What a great experience! Of course, the country was amazing, but there was no better way to see it than by RV. And I don't think there is any better campervan operation than New Zealand Frontiers. In addition to providing a quality campervan at a fair price, Kenrick (the owner) took great pride in ensuring that all of our possible needs were met; maps, recommendations . . . he thought of it all. He even went so far as to deliver the van to our hostel and to drop us off at the airport. We were more than pleased with our experience with New Zealand Frontiers, and look forward to renting from them again on our next trip.

Wow! NZ is a fantastic country. Originally we'd planned on backpacking and staying in hostels, instead, we chose to see NZ by campervan. Man, what a good decision. We not only got to travel at our own pace and direct our trip from day to day, but also we kept our travel budget under control. The Dept of Conservation (DOC) offers very well maintained RV sites and campgrounds and the iSites in every city provided immensely useful tourist information and services. We rented an RV with a shower, toilet and kitchen, and this proved very helpful! The company we rented from (New Zealand Frontiers) was fantastic too. They provided everything we needed with the well-maintained, clean and reliable RV. Can't write about NZ without mentioning the Kiwis. We found New Zealanders to be very helpful, open and inviting. All in all an great trip to a great country!
Tyler and Chana, U.S.A, October 2007 (received prior to travel)
Thank you for all your help so far. We are looking forward to two wonderful weeks in New Zealand. If the service you've given us up to now is any indication, then renting from New Zealand Frontiers will be a true pleasure!
"One price includes everything, not like some companies who price insurance, chairs, tables separately."
Eric and Carol Cui, Australia, October 2007
It's the first time we travel in a campervan. We found it's a great experience. Thanks for renting it to us. We like the way you run your business. One price includes everything, not like some companies who price insurance, chairs, tables separately. With NZ Frontiers, it's simple and clear.
Mario Donovan and Anne McLoughlan, U.S.A., May 2007 (received prior to travel)
We are in business as well and we are astounded at how difficult it seems for people to render the same high quality customer service that you have to us. We strive for the same and just wanted to let you know that your excellent service does not go unnoticed.

Rob and Mary Haines, U.K., February-April 2007
Thank you for the services you provided during our vacation. If we ever make it back to NZ we shall certainly use your company again and we will not hesitate in recommending you to anyone else we meet who is planning a similar trip.
Rob and Mary Haines, U.K., February-April 2007 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
My wife and I hired a campervan in 2007 for a six week trip around the South and North islands. NZ Frontiers couldn't have been more helpful, delivering our campervan to us at our hotel in Christchurch and taking us to our hotel in Auckland at the end of our trip. Both service and price from this company are excellent.
"Both service and price from this company are excellent."

So good we did it twice! If you want a holiday that exceeds your expectations then this is it. Top quality on every level. New Zealand is a fantastic holiday destination and NZ Frontiers is the icing on the cake. Go with them and you will not be disappointed. We do have one problem however, for us New Zealand was so wonderful and all we could ever want from a holiday, the scenery, the adventure, the people, the attitude to life. New Zealand Frontiers was such a high standard that no other holiday since has ever come to being as good. I've never had the feeling before but whenever I think of the New Zealand Frontiers outfit I feel immensely homesick!

Peter Elgar and Anna Olek, U.K., February, 2007
I was really impressed by New Zealand Frontiers, both by the excellent service and quality of the camper van. Everything you could want to know about using the van, camping and driving in New Zealand was clearly explained before we set off. The van was really well laid out inside, and included all the accessories we could possibly need. In addition it was delivered direct to our hotel in immaculate condition. We had a great time. I wish we could have stayed longer.
Barry and Catherine Rogers, U.K., January-February 2007
Just a quick note to say thank you again for treating us so well on our visit. As a result of our experience I think we will be returning sooner than originally planned!

Roman and Jana Ipfling, Germany, January 2007
Thank you very much for everything. It was a pleasure to meet you and we had a wonderful time in New Zealand. We definitely want to come back since there is more to see.
Martin and Heidi Vinson, U.K., January 2007
We really appreciated the all round personal and quality service you gave us. Working for a small company myself, I appreciate the additional effort and extra miles you have to go when you're up against the big boys, but you're doing all the right things to put New Zealand Frontiers ahead.
"Your service and hospitality is second to none."
Tom and Kim Hayden, U.S.A., November-December 2006
I wanted to let you know how impressed Kim and I were with your professionalism and our campervan, which we lovingly named Gusamo after our two dachshunds, Gus and Sam. Your service and hospitality is second to none. We look forward to coming back for a visit. All our best.

If it were possible to give Kenrick Mitchell and his New Zealand Frontiers a higher rating on Rankers we would in a heart beat. Kenrick made us feel like our business really mattered to him, which was evident through his service and in the way he treated us. Our van took care of us. It was clean when Kenrick met us at the airport and had all the comforts that we anticipated, after researching his professional and user friendly website during the planning phase of our trip. We really can't say enough positive things about New Zealand Frontiers. We can't wait for the next opportunity to board that plane in Nashville for our return trip. Kenrick, keep an eye out for our e-mail.

I've been very impressed with the quick and informative responses to all my requests and complements on your excellent website.
"New Zealand was perhaps the most memorable country we have visited. The country is simply astonishing, so varied and untamed, with friendly, helpful people."
Lauri and Anne Katara, Finland, July-August 2006
Thank you so much for taking care of our rental arrangements. The van was just right for us and in excellent condition. And all the time I knew I could get in touch with you, should something urgent appear. New Zealand was perhaps the most memorable country we have visited. The country is simply astonishing, so varied and untamed, with friendly, helpful people.
"This is our first overseas trip and it is tremendously reassuring to have our travel matters taken care of in the efficient and personal way in which you are looking after us."
Alan Largue and Ilona Steytler, South Africa, October 2005
This letter has taken a prodigious amount of time to get to you - a shortfall for which I humbly beg your pardon. However, time has not dimmed our thoroughly enjoyable stay in New Zealand. Nor has it diluted the high regard with which we hold you and New Zealand Frontiers. Each time we've brought out the photographs and videos of our holiday to show friends and family, we have been reminded anew of our outstandingly pleasant hiring experience. When our trip was still in its embryonic stage, your intuitive, easy-to-navigate, yet highly informative website persuaded us to use your company instead of the others available. New Zealand was our first trip off the shores of Africa, so we were naturally unsure of what to expect in terms of service delivery. A needless concern as it turned out. Receiving personal attention upon our arrival in Auckland, and taking delivery of an impeccable vehicle - both inside and out - gave us further assurance that we were going to have a wonderful time. The comfort and reliability of the vehicle was impressive, and the knowledge that all the appliances and on-board amenities worked all the time provided peace of mind travelling. Moreover, your assurances that, in the unlikely event of a breakdown, your company's country-wide support mechanisms would have us back on the road in no time, helped us to get on with the task of enjoying our holiday. In all your dealings with us you showed a high degree of professionalism and foresight. It reflects a significant amount of thought and planning in your business. We are pleased to recommend New Zealand Frontiers to anyone wishing to travel in your country, and if I get my way, we will be seeing you again as soon as possible. Here's wishing you every success in the future and we look forward to watching you and New Zealand Frontiers become an outstanding example of business excellence and a company to be reckoned with in your industry.
"..if I get my way, we will be seeing you again as soon as possible."

Many thanks for a very professional service thus far. This is our first overseas trip and it is tremendously reassuring to have our travel matters taken care of in the efficient and personal way in which you are looking after us. We really appreciate your efforts.
Andy and Maggie Mitchell, N.Z., August 2005
The van was absolutely fantastic to go away in, we had a really good time. We free camped the entire time with no real need for electricity. The shower worked just fine too, was surprised at how much pressure it had. We would recommend your campervans to everyone who wants a great value independent holiday, we will be doing it again for sure.
Claire and Paul Lockwood, U.K., May 2005
Thanks for helping to give us a fantastic honeymoon - we both had a great time. Can't wait to come back and see all the places that we didn't get time to go.
"Thanks for helping to give us a fantastic honeymoon - we both had a great time."
Matt and Jane Miller, U.K., February-March 2005
We cannot really thank you enough for all your help with our holiday. The personal touches you gave us and the extra work you did for us, made the holiday. You are a true gentleman and it was a real pleasure choosing your company.
"We were so impressed we offered to buy into the company!"
Suzanne and Brian Robbins, U.S.A., February 2004
Many thanks for the opportunity to use one of your Campers - the whole experience was very enjoyable.
Aine and Glen Murphy, Ireland, December 2003-January 2004
We just want to say a huge thanks for all your help during our stay in NZ. We really appreciated all you did and will definitely recommend you to anyone considering a visit to NZ.
Karl and Jackie Price, U.K, October 2003
We thought that we would write to express our thanks for your part in our recent wonderful holiday. We have now returned to normality in the UK, but have very fond memories of the country we have left behind and plan to revisit New Zealand as soon as possible. We will have no hesitation in recommending you to any of our friends or family should they visit New Zealand, something which we have been suggesting they all undertake.
Karl and Jackie Price, U.K, October 2003 (from independent website Rankers.co.nz)
We were so impressed we offered to buy into the company! We found Kenrick through his very professional website. It contained factual and accurate information with a human touch. There was no flannel or bull. His prices were reasonable and the van was ideal for us. From the first e-mail Kenrick was the epitome of what I want from someone in his business. He arranged all aspects of the hire and then met us off the plane at Auckland airport. By the time he let us lose on the streets of NZ we knew how everything worked and had been given so much good advice that we knew we had chosen the right company. Unfortunately, 10 days later, our van suffered a major electrical fault at Greymouth. Within an hour the van was in the garage, we were on a train to Christchurch and a new van was waiting at the other end. This was all sorted by Kenrick and with tremendous efficiency. Our van was then returned to us several days later. The test of a good company is how they deal with problems and our experience with Kenrick couldn't have been better. I recommend him to my friends when they mention going to NZ and will continue to do so. We left NZ the richer for the experience and having gained a friend. Don't use the big firms use this one as he actually cares about the service he provides and the people he rents to.

Your vacation in paradise..
It is advisable on any visit to New Zealand to allow about 40% of time in the North Island and 60% in the South Island. Another good rule to consider is to plan on travelling a comfortable 2-300 kilometres per day - perhaps less for visits of more than eight weeks duration. Try also to allow an occasional few nights in one location to avoid having to move on every day. If you are particularly organised with your itinerary planning, creating a plan that is a little shorter than your rental duration will provide you with extra time up your sleeve with which to spend in locations you particularly enjoy or to travel to those additional points of interest you hear about along the way.
Most visitors to New Zealand are pleasantly impressed by the standard of our roads. Although you'll only find a couple of hundred kilometres of motorway in the entire country (around a handful of the major cities), all main highways are well maintained and have a 100-km/hr speed limit. There are over 100 000 kilometres of roads in New Zealand, with State Highway No1 stretching around 2000 kilometres from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island. You'll rarely be more than 50 kilometres from the next gas station, even while off the beaten track.
Tourist Information Centres are everywhere and are excellent, the locals are friendly, and there are plenty of opportunities to free-camp in peaceful locations. Along the way you'll get to practise your pronunciation of Maori place names, some of which rate among the longest anywhere in the world! Their meanings are usually either a geographical reference or tell stories of past events nearby. Although 90% of New Zealanders live within 30 minutes of the sea, the diversity of the geography means that within a short drive of the coast you can find yourself among truly alpine scenery, while a half-day's drive can easily take you through several completely different landscapes.
If you're lucky enough to be staying longer than the average three weeks' duration, the 60/40 split between islands provides enough time to consider travelling north of Auckland to visit the Bay of Islands where you'll find beautiful beaches and marine activities such as cruises, diving, deep sea fishing and swimming with dolphins, not to mention some of our nation's most important history and oldest buildings. The road through the Waipoua Kauri Forest provides one of the country's nicest drives through massive trees that are up to 1500 years old. There's a good chance of seeing our huge native wood pigeon in this area, along with the more abundant Pukeko swamp hen. You may even wish to travel all the way up to the end of the road at Cape Reinga, 400 km from Auckland, from where you can see the Tasman Sea meet the Pacific Ocean. Don't forget the Tutukaka Coast near Whangarei on the return trip southward - this stretch of quiet coastal back road passes through beautiful ocean-side communities, including the departure point for charter boat trips to the Poor Knights Islands, regarded as one of the better diving locations in the world with sea caves and wreck attractions.
Auckland is well worth spending a day checking out, with islands to visit in the beautiful Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf beyond, great views from atop the dozens of extinct volcanoes, excellent museums and more parkland than any other city in the world. Auckland also boasts enough pleasure boats to ensure that there's usually plenty to see from the seaside suburbs of more than 100 sandy beaches.
South of Auckland you'll find farmland where the grass grows up to a centimetre every day, supporting millions of cows that produce up to 50 million litres of milk daily. You may wish to consider touring the popular Coromandel Peninsular with its Pohutukawa trees and more coastal scenery. Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove are essential stops.
Rotorua is also a 'must see' centre for the presentation of our native Maori culture, as well as having abundant thermal activity that includes mud pools and geysers. You can even visit a village buried by an eruption that was heard from almost one end of the country to the other. Rotorua is a great place to get acquainted with a popular theme of New Zealand tourism - adventure! You can raft a waterfall, skydive, quad bike, mountain bike - or just play golf or sit in a hot pool.
A drive around the East Coast region gets you off the beaten track to isolated coastal settlements, among which is the village where the movie Whale Rider was filmed. Napier city in the Hawkes Bay was rebuilt in the 1930's in the Art Deco style of the period, after a tragic earthquake had destroyed the entire region. Nearby are more great opportunities to get close up to wildlife with a spectacular gannet colony.
The central North Island includes the Waitomo region with extensive cave networks and has New Zealand's largest lake - the 620 square kilometre Lake Taupo. Here you'll find geothermal activity - there are even hot springs on the lake floor - good trout fishing and excellent hiking among the three active volcanoes in the Tongariro National Park. In the winter months hiking gives way to skiing and there are Lord of the Rings movie locations throughout the region. There's great kayaking on the Whanganui River which has it's own national park, while the North Island's western Taranaki region is renown for great gardens and the almost perfect 2800 meter cone of Mt Taranaki.
The North Island's southern most point is home to our capital city of Wellington - a vibrant harbour city with a wild coastline providing wonderful drives, historic government buildings and a world-class national museum to visit.
Although Cook Strait, which separates our two main islands, is only 23 kilometres across at it's narrowest point, the ferry trip from Wellington to Picton is a 100-kilometer cruise, of which only half is in open waters.
New Zealand's South Island covers about 150 000 square kilometres - almost 60% of the nation's total land area, but has barely 25% of our four million population. The South Island has a rugged backbone created by the meeting of two of the earth's great tectonic plates, forming a long range of mountains rising to over 3000 meters. Roads only pass through the Southern Alps along three spectacular routes, resulting in many visitors choosing to travel down the West Coast and back up the eastern side of the island. Traffic is lighter than in the North Island and gas stations can be further apart.
The top of the South Island has two separate regions worth considering - Marlborough with it's inviting wineries, and the Nelson region with its fruit growing and the Abel Tasman National Park, a popular destination for sea kayaking. Nearby is the half million-hectare Kahurangi National Park, while inland is the tranquil Nelson Lakes National Park.
The West Coast region is wild, isolated and beautifully forested with ancient native pine varieties and nikau palms growing on slopes which rise steeply from the sea to snow capped mountains. Industry here is based around farming, fishing and coal. There are few towns but plenty of history from a wealthier gold mining era. Just south of Greymouth you can travel inland and eventually across to Christchurch via the Arthur's Pass, following the same route as the Trans Alpine rail journey. Alternatively, a more popular itinerary continues southward to include the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers that are very accessible and offer guided glacier walks and flight-seeing opportunities. You should be able to get a photo of our alpine parrot - the kea - while you're there too. Travelling this way, you will turn inland about half way down the west coast of the island, driving over the Haast Pass into the Central Otago region.
You'll need at least a few days here to linger in quaint picture book villages like Arrowtown and the lakeside alpine resorts of Wanaka and Queenstown. The list of activities here is endless... though you'll probably have trouble raising yourself from just gazing at the views! You can visit more wineries, raft or take a jet boat ride on a white water river, take a lake cruise, jump off a bridge with a rubber band attached to your legs, go for a flight in a collection of historic fighter planes, take a lakeside stroll, a gondola up a mountainside, or just relax and wish you could stay forever!
From Queenstown another essential inclusion in your travels is to drive onward to Te Anau. Here you can see some of the world's rarest bird species, including the takahe alpine hen. The most famous of our hiking trails also departs nearby to spend three days passing through a tiny corner of the huge Fiordland National Park en route to Milford Sound. An easier way of getting to Milford Sound is by the 120-kilometer avalanche swept road from Te Anau. Don't forget to take a cruise and a helicopter ride while you're there. Doubtful Sound is an even larger fiord with a 500 kilometre coastline which is also well worth visiting from your base in Te Anau.
The South Island's southern-most Southland region is also worth a lingering drive, with State Highway No1 passing through Invercargill before terminating at Bluff, from where you might like to consider taking the ferry across to Stewart Island if time permits. Stewart Island is the only place in New Zealand where our most famous native bird, the flightless kiwi, is not strictly nocturnal - providing great day-time viewing opportunities. The Catlins coastal district is a popular meandering diversion down in these latitudes, where you're more than half way from the equator to the South Pole.
Our fourth largest city of Dunedin gets snow to sea level in the winter, so it's not surprising that you can visit penguin and albatross colonies on the city's Otago Peninsular. There's a strong Scottish heritage to discover as well, whiskey, kilts and a castle included. Continuing northward, the town of Oamaru has a remarkable heritage preserved in stone architecture.
From here you can deviate inland to the Alps again to visit Mt Cook, our highest peak and one of dozens to rise to over 3000 metres within its surrounding national park. There are more great flight-seeing options here and at the nearby lakeside settlement of Tekapo, which boasts the well-photographed Church of the Good Shepherd.
Back down on the coast is the most English of our major cities, Christchurch. As well as being a cathedral town gifted with parks and museums, in Christchurch you can even go punting on the Avon or take a tram ride through the city centre. The historic Banks Peninsular town of Akaroa is especially picturesque while in this area and has a French history that is unique in New Zealand. Don't miss a stop in the once sleepy fishing village of Kaikoura, north of Christchurch, where close ocean currents provide great feeding for whales, with whale watching now a bigger industry than the lobster fishing.
Naturally it's not possible to provide a full guidebook to activities here and, besides, as you've chosen a motorhome vacation you're probably inspired by the independence of making your own discoveries along the way! Rather than issuing daily route plan options New Zealand Frontiers prefers to leave the spirit of discovery with you to tailor an itinerary or simply to wander freely around localities that meet your interests or attract your curiosity. However, this advice should serve to provide you with an overview of the popular inclusions on any tour of New Zealand - a base from which to launch your plans and possible further research. Once here and on the road, you will find that local i-sites (information centres) are full of friendly, helpful staff who are very knowledgeable and can provide comprehensive advice on local attractions, ensuring you wont miss anything!
To continue with more detailed pre trip planning, or should you still feel that you prefer the security of having a fixed itinerary provided for you, New Zealand Frontiers highly recommends visiting the government operated New Zealand.com website where you will find a comprehensive range of further information from extensive details on each region and activities offered to a selection of touring routes.

Great deals on safe havens..
New Zealand has over 300 holiday parks and campgrounds offering safe, friendly accommodation with full facilities, electricity equipped sites and very reasonable fees. Additionally the Department of Conservation (DOC) provides facilities for motorhomes at a modest cost in many scenic locations throughout the country. Free-camping is also permited in most regions.
Motorhome parks in New Zealand are generally open year round, with most providing full kitchen, bathroom, laundry and waste dump facilities. Many can boast spectacular locations such as beside beaches, at thermal springs, next to national parks, beside rivers and lakes, and in metropolitan centres. Reservations are not necessary except during the local peak summer holiday period from Christmas until mid January when it is recommended to call ahead, especially if you anticipate arriving late.
Holiday Accommodation Parks of New Zealand
As an umbrella organisation, HAPNZ is the national motorhome park association in New Zealand with approximately 300 member properties. Beneath the HAPNZ umbrella are three major chains of holiday parks; Family Parks of New Zealand, Kiwi Parks and Top 10. Regular users of holiday parks - such as those on a motorhome vacation - have the option of joining loyalty programs upon arrival that offer discounted access to all properties within the chain for a membership fee of approximately $NZD40. As no single holiday park chain achieves representation in every location you are likely to visit during your travels, your New Zealand Frontiers rental package includes a guide to the locations and contact details for all HAPNZ parks.

Department of Conservation Campsites
The Department of Conservation manages over 250 vehicle accessible camping areas on conservation land throughout New Zealand for you to enjoy. Many are found in the types of scenic natural settings which New Zealand is renowned for - from lush forest to lake shores and sandy or pebbled beaches to alpine locations.
Conservation campsites are generally basic with facilities ranging from informal sites with very simple facilities such as pit toilets and stream water to a few well serviced grounds with a camp warden, hot showers, lighting and rubbish collection. Fees are from $NZD3 to $NZD14 per person.

Free camping and parking for a coffee break
One of the wonderful benefits available to those who choose to travel by motorhome is the freedom to stop at your leisure. You will find opportunities to park up with an alpine vista outside your kitchen window or the beach outside your bedroom door!
You only need use common sense when choosing a place to stop for a few hours:
- Is it safe and clear of the road?
- Is the ground stable to drive on?
- Will your vehicle or activities be likely to cause environmental damage?
- Is it private land?
For your comfort you will want to find a place which is flat and level and which is quiet. Respect the local people and do not park in front of houses or where you might annoy others by spoiling their view.
Free camping and overnight parking on public land and in rest areas maintained by local authorities is also permitted in many areas around New Zealand - but involves further considerations. In recent years the use of motorhomes has become very popular in New Zealand and most City, District and Regional Councils have responded to environmental responsibilities, safety considerations and commercial interest concerns, along with the general dilemma of increasing numbers of motorhomes parking overnight by creating policies on the topic. Unfortunately such laws are established on a region by region basis and vary from general prohibition to active encouragement. Should you anticipate engaging in freedom camping you are advised to seek the local regulations from the nearest information centre. Always check for and obey signs which forbid camping. You must obey any enforcement officers. Do not park next to a campground. You may not be able to stay in national parks or on popular lakefronts or harbour-sides, but there will usually be another place just as beautiful not far down the road.
You can help to reduce the need for such new laws by always being courteous to locals, thoughtful about where you park, and never leaving anything behind when you leave. "Take only photographs and leave only footprints" Never dump your grey or black water anywhere other than at a proper dump site and always take your rubbish with you.
Campgrounds and holiday parks offer many benefits and most people who free-camp still pay to use campgrounds frequently for the laundries, dump sites, water sources and other facilities they offer travellers.
Freedom Camping Motto: "Assume nothing - always ask a local"
New Zealand is proud of its 100% Pure image. In recognition of the responsibility for maintaining this image, exercising guardianship and promoting common, clear advice to those wishing to experience the privilege of freedom camping in such a widely admired land, The Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand along with a wide range of other interested organisations has established the New Zealand Freedom Camping Forum to provide advice and promote responsibility among freedom campers. New Zealand Frontiers supports the values of the Freedom Camping Forum. New Zealand Frontiers only operates fully self contained motorhomes and encourages all clients considering freedom camping to visit the website of the Freedom Camping Forum and adhere to the motto 'Assume nothing - always ask a local'

A scenic cruise to break your travels..
If your New Zealand vacation includes checking out both the North and South Islands, your trip will include more than just travelling by road - you'll be taking a 100 kilometre ferry journey across the Cook Strait that separates the two islands as well.
New Zealand Frontiers is an accredited agent for the Interislander ferry company, who operate up to six daily departures each way between Wellington, on the bottom of the North Island, and Picton at the top of the South Island. Should your intended itinerary require ferry travel, reservations can be secured to meet your requirements at a cost of $NZD340 each way - fully transferable (without amendment fees or penalty but subject to availability) and representing a 10% saving on normal full fare rates.
If your travel plans do not include a fixed date for crossing between the islands, or should the flexibility just suit you better, you can also make your own reservations directly with the Interislander using a free phone number during your travels, right up to the day of departure.
However, to ensure travelling on first choice dates and at preferred times, it is recommended that you secure ferry bookings as early as possible, especially during the peak travel season of December to February when fares cost as much as $NZD380 each way.
Vehicle check in time is one hour before your sailing. The Navman multilingual GPS navigation systems supplied with all New Zealand Frontiers rentals can easily be set to take you directly to the ferry terminals - and the terminals are also well signposted from Wellington's motorway and in the idyllic town of Picton. While the closest points between the North and South Islands are only 23km apart, your total ferry journey covers 96km. Crossings take approximately 3 hours. Only half of the route is in Cook Strait, with the remaining time spent in the Marlborough Sounds and Wellington Harbour. Make sure you take your camera with you upon parking on-board as the scenery is picturesque. Views en-route range from Wellington's skyline to distant mountain ranges and deep, forested fiords. You'll even pass through an area with eight-knot tidal currents. The Interislandline's ships are very comfortable, carrying up to 1600 passengers each. The vessels have bars, cafes, great viewing decks, and as well as carrying your motorhome you may see trains and trucks on board.
Due to the expense of retrieving vehicles, New Zealand Frontiers do not accept rentals that require vehicle drop off in one port and pick up in the other.
- New Zealand Frontiers is an accredited agent for the Interislander ferry company and can obtain fully flexible ferry bookings with your motorhome reservation at a cost of $NZD340 each way. This discounted rate includes your two-berth motorhome and two persons.
- To benefit from this discounted ferry fare you must select preferred dates and times when completing the New Zealand Frontiers reservation form as the Interislander does not offer open tickets
- You can change bookings later without penalty, including upon discussing your itinerary with your New Zealand Frontiers representative at time of taking delivery of your vehicle or by free telephone call during your motorhome vacation
- Up to six departure times each day to choose from
- The Navman GPS navigation system in your motorhome will take you directly to the ferry terminal
- Don't forget to take your camera with you when you park your vehicle on board the ferry - the scenery is spectacular!

Pack a sunhat and raincoat and you'll be right!..
New Zealand has a mild, temperate climate with few weather extremes where living without air conditioning is comfortable and it is possible to farm animals outdoor year round. Our islands lie remotely in the South Pacific Ocean, with 95% of the population living within half an hour's drive from the sea.
Few areas are more than 100km from the coast. This means we experience the usual changeability of a maritime climate and it is worth noting in your clothing preparations that relatively high humidity can result in small temperature changes being quite noticeable. As locals we're accustomed to the cheerful philosophy that, when outdoors, if you carry a sunhat and a raincoat you should be OK. Statistically, it is likely that you will encounter at least one wet day during visits of a week or more at any time of the year. However, it is also quite possible to experience several weeks with or without rain at any time of the year! While it is advisable to bring clothing for all seasons during any visit you can generally expect the best weather during our summer months of December to March and, in most areas, wetter weather during the June to Aug / Sept winter months. One of the advantages of choosing to travel by campervan is that inconvenience is minimized during any rainfall.
Our weather arrives from the Tasman Sea to our west, so the west coast is wetter than the east. Some southern stretches of the west coast receive phenomenal rainfall (up to 12m annually) and are positively spectacular if you visit during a rainstorm. In contrast, inland regions of the south/central South Island are the only areas in the country blessed by a continental climate, where months can pass without precipitation and our temperature extremes of -22 to +42 degrees have been recorded. In the North Island by summer you can expect temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees and up to 30 on warm days. By winter 12 to 17 degrees is usual, less during cooler periods, with occasional overnight frosts. In the South Island expect similar summertime temperatures, with warm days rising into the 30's. During winter the South Island is about five degrees cooler than the North, with snow occasionally providing a pretty picture to low altitudes and even sea level. Overnight temperatures often drop below freezing with some areas receiving as many as 150 frosts per year, making for brilliant crisp, clear days.
Ocean temperatures range from 22 degrees during the northern summer months to eight degrees during winter in the south.
Summer months bring the spectacle of coastal native Pohutukawa trees in brilliant crimson blossom, harbors full of yachts and generally stable weather ideal for outdoor activities. This results in the October / November until February / March period being the most popular time to visit, with the locals also on holiday over Christmas and throughout January.
Autumn brings quieter times and often continuing good weather, with some areas presenting an artist's palette of colour. Winter can also bring good weather, especially in the south, and usually provides good skiing on uncrowded slopes. Springtime's millions of bouncing lambs in fields where the grass grows up to a centimeter daily are guaranteed to provide a smile, and gardens radiate the glow of nature which makes our land so special.
